I WAS SHOPPING YESTERDAY FOR A NEW DVD PLAYER & I WAS JUST CURIOUS ABOUT BLUE-RAY. IT WAS NICE THE PICTURE QUALITY ETC.. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE PRICE $650.00 FOR THE DVD PLAYER AND THE TV SET WAS $60 & UP. I HAVE OVER 3,000 MOVIE & OVER 100 TV SERIES ON HD. IF I HAD BLUE RAY I WOULD HAVE PAID MAYBE 2X AS MUCH ON MY TV SERIES SET COLLECTION ALONE IF I HAD BLUE- RAY.
DOES ANYONE HAVE BLUE-RAY AND HOW MUCH ON AVERAGE DO YOU SPEND ON THE TV SEASON SET COMPARED TO REGULAR HD SET I HAVE A FRIEND WHOM SWITCH FROM HD TO BLUE -RAY. IN 2006 ON HD DISKS ALONE HE ONLY SPENT $150.00 THAT YEAR (TV SERIES ONLY) IN 2007 BLUE-RAY SETS ONLY HE SPENT WELL OVER $370.00 ON TV SEASON SETS ONLY DOES ANYONE ELSE BUY BLUE-RAY. HIS BLUE-RAY SEASON SET LOST S-3 $66.95 NIP TUCK S-4 $52.95 PRISON BREAK S-3 $69.95 THE SOPRANOS S-6 PT.-1 $84.95 THE SOPRANOS S-6 PT.-2 $83.95 MY HD SEASON SET (SAME SET COMPARE PRICES) LOST S-3 $38.99 NIPTUCK S-4 $37.99 PRISON BREAK S-3 $38.99 THE SOPRANOS S-6 PT. 1 $67.99 THE SOPRANOS S-6 PT. 2 $64.99 I THINK I WILL STICK WITH HD |

there will be no winner in the BluRay vs HD war - only losers; the consumers that will be stuck with them.

Well, I can see Blu ray and HD DVD being good for current shows, but for old shows, it's just a gimmick.
I think the only way I'd upgrade to HD DVD or Blu ray is if Paramount released the final season of Frasier in HD, other than that, I'm fine with regular DVD's. |

UNLESS THE MAKER WOULD MAKE BLUE-RAY PLAYER ABLE TO PLAY BOTH BLUE-RAY DISK AND REGULAR DVD'S I WOULD CONSIDER THE SWITCH. |

Why the obsession with high definition picture? Just like Star Wars, I prefer the original grainy versions without hi-tech special effects.

To applecherry:
![]() I am waiting to see who wins the HD wars or until a combo player for a reasonable price (sub-$200) comes out. But if I lived in the US I would have been on the deal Best Buy had the first week in November for sure. $169.99 for the HD-DVD XBOX 360 add-on + Heroes Season 1 + 7 HD-DVD movies. For now though you can't beat the price of regular DVD. |

I think truthfully, it all depends on how big your DVD screen is. If you have a big-screen television, blu is 100 times better, but on a regular TV set, standard DVD's are just fine. It all depends on how big your TV is.
