Who has noticed that the question "Did your cashier greet you today?" is now generally asked on the ATM swipe card machines in stores? I have seen this appear at Wal-Mart, but I am not sure if it's being asked in other stores.
So, who here replies to the question asked about the cashiers? I do! I am honest as well! If a cashier does greet me, I will answer "yes." If a cashier does not greet me, I will answer "no." Simple as that. For instance, I just came back from Wal-Mart tonight, and the cashier did NOT even acknowledge my presence at all! He didn't say "hi" or didn't even make eye contact. He just told me my total amount! Instead, he just gabbed at the guy who was behind me in line. I think that is NOT proper and professional of him. So, I did answer "no" about the greeting question on the machine. How effective is this kind of feedback to the stores about its employees? Just wondering. |

oh its very effective, the companies base their employees salaries on their performances...I remember when i was a member of a bank so slow you could see your beard grow while you stood in line; I told them several times how poor the service was, and in less than 6 months from the survey it was like a new bank!

Wow a thread I can really relate to! I am a new cashier and I always start with "Hello, may I help you?" or "Good morning", even when it's been a bad day. Today I was nearly in tears and for customers I still put a smile on my face, even the extremely rude ones! But then you get some guys who call you sweetheart! *blush* I love those guys! I make sure to always greet customers so they feel comfortable in the store.

I only answer that question about 20% of the time. I was at Wal-Mart today, and paid cash, so I ignored the keypad altogether.
But I was wondering that same thing yesterday when I did check yes. I don't like rude cashiers. But then I also don't like ****ty customers. Terrible when you get in a line with both. |

I think cashiers should greet people. I don't understand why some cashiers choose to not say a single word. Seems rude of them if you ask me.

I'm not bothered if a Wal-Mart cashier fails to greet me but what really ticks me off is trying to find something in the place and there are no associates anywhere around to help you.

Well, I can see that most of you who have replied in this thread did not really pay attention to what I was asking. I was not asking if cashiers greeted you or not. I was asking whether or not you actually answer the question when asked on the swipecard, whether or not you use a card. I used quotes in my thread's title as a labeled reference, not as an actual question here.
Am I grouchy today? Yes, I am.... Well...whatever.... |

I see those quite often in Walmart. I always pick on the cashiers when I see it. I ask them "where is my greeting?" and they get a laugh out of it.
