Season Eight was to be the finale with Harry and Christine getting married, but sadly, that idea (and others) were 'scratched' when NBC renewed the series for another year. And new writers came in I believe and it wasn't the greatest. And the cast was not treated as nice. Was not exactly the same either since Mr. Weege left. (creator) The new writers didn't know the characters well in my opinion. For example: Harry and Christine not "in love" with each other was just ridiculous after admitting their feelings years before. Also Christine 'staying over' with that young kid was just the DUMBEST thing!! That was *completely* out of character for her. (Those are just 2 examples) So, no there was never to be a 10th Season, to my understanding. I don't think S9 should have happened! (lol) Any other info., I'll be happy to share what I know or think. I'm sure NitCrt1 can also give you in-sight as well.

Here was the deal with the series finale in season nine. It happened like this...new episodes of the show were trying to be sold into syndication. As a result, the show was not to have a definitive ending. Apparently, selling new episodes into syndication was not a successful venture. Therefore, at the last possible second, the cast was told via a memo (how tacky) that the show would be cancelled. Thus, writers scrambled to try and give the show some sort of ending. Two bad decisions, one from the network and Warner Brothers and one from the writers, resulted in the worst ending of the show's nine year history. Someone on this board mentioned that after the finale, the idea was going to be that a TV movie or something like that would be wriiten to give closure to fans. I don't know the truth in that but I do know from a reliable source that cast members were not happy with the way they were treated when it was announced that the show would be cancelled. They were all told to clean out their dressing room immediately with no time. Also, the cast were a bit angry at the fact that they found out about the cancellation of the show in a memo. After nine years of service, the cast felt slighted. I don't blame them. NBC tried to make up for their very huge mistake in small ways, but it could never make up for what had been done. Notice now that no matter what the ratings of the show are, long-running shows on NBC have been given proper send-offs. (Example: "Will and Grace")
So, I guess to answer your question, a tenth season would only have happened in syndication not on NBC. Once there were no takers, then the gavel finally fell on the show with no fanfare. |

Yes, the episodes you are talking about MikeL happened in season eight which technically *was* supposed to be the shows last. However, as ratings got stronger, NBC decided to renew it. Writers had to go back and undo everything they set up which included Harry and Christine consumating their relationship. Bull was supposed to go move to the Amish country, Dan was to become a priest and Roz was set to become a guard at a Turkish prison. This was according to an article published in the USA Today during that time period. Season nine, the season after all the episodes you mentioned minus Bull being abducted by aliens, was the worst season of the show's history. It lost its identity and what the characters were all about. As for Richard Moll and his relationship with other cast members, I heard that this was true. However, I have to say that you never saw the tension on camera because they were all that good at hiding it. It was truly a shame because they were probably one of the best assembled ensemble casts in television history.

The article never said what was supposed to happen to him. I don't know why that was, but it didn't.
