is what I used to say many years ago. I don't even remember knowing who Fred was at the time but Toody and that "ooh ooh" thing got on my nerves SO much that it ruined the whole show for me, lol! My dad watched it all the time. I remember being little and saying Toody drove me crazy. I'm glad I don't remember seeing the Change Your Partners episode where they BOTH said it cos I woulda screamed and ran from the TV for sure.
But now, yes now, I love the show. Was thrilled to find most of the episodes online. Missing a few (which is annoying) but can't afford to buy them (and have nothing to trade), so hopefully some day the rest will be online or on TV. |

I first saw this show on Nick At Nite back in 1985 or 1986 when they didn't suck
It was a great show and I really enjoyed it alot. I only wish I had taped it then as I only have about 4 episodes on a dvd that a friend made for me. They really need to offically release this show. It didn't run that long (two seasons, I think) so heck just put out the complete series in a nice dvd set. I'm not sure who owns the rights but if it is NBC/Universal we might as well buy the sets from I-Offer because Universal is notoriously slow about releasing classic shows (if they release them at all). |

Studios or whoever complain about people making bootlegs and things, but when they take forever to put out DVDs that people actually wanna buy, it makes it harder NOT to look for unofficial sources. They put out way less popular shows, which isn't quite fair. And with the popularity of VCRs going down, we're gonna need all our fave shows available on DVD just to be able to watch them. Most of us didn't have a VCR back then, so are we just supposed to forget about the shows we never got on tape?

I definitely wouldn't go so far as to say I hate this show, but I wouldn't jump up and down in the air about how wonderful it was either. In the annals of TV, there have been some pretty putrid shows, and I certainly don't think Car 54 belongs there. The one thing I did like was seeing Fred, Al and Charlotte Rae in a different venue than the Munsters and The Facts of Life. Otherise, not a show that rocks my world.

...owns the rights to "CAR 54", 'storrs', because they bought out the company who bought out Republic Pictures- which acquired National Telefilm Associates- which owned NBC Films' library of pre-1971 TV series. Got that? They're just "sitting on it" now, because they, like NBC/Universal, believe nobody wants to see black & white TV shows (especially "forgotten" ones), for one thing- another, I believe THEY believe "CAR 54" has limited appeal to the kind of DVD "patron" they want....say, those who watch "RULES OF ENGAGEMENT" or "HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER". It would take a mighty big force to force VIACOM/PARAMOUNT to release the show again....
