I've always found it more than unusual the way Lucy and Desi maintained a close friendship through all those years after their divorce. Most people have a hard time fathoming how a divorced couple can remain that way, especially after they've been remarried to other people. I guess this must be a family trait because this unusual tradition has been carried on by the Arnaz kids. Lucie Arnaz, married to Laurence Luckinbill since 1980, was married for a couple years back in the '70s to Philip Vandervort. But although divorced, she and Philip have maintained a friendship. In fact, he worked with her on her "Lucy & Desi: A Home Movie" project in the early '90s. Desi Jr., married to Amy Barghell since shortly before Lucille Ball passed away in 1989, was previously married to Linda Purl. Desi and Linda, nevertheless, continue to be friends and, in fact, as shown in this clip, recently performed together on stage:

I guess it shows that that Lucy, Desi, Lucie, and Desi Jr. were/are good people. Many marriages don't last, but maintaining a lifelong friendship shows some caring, dedication and commitment also. They seem to value their children in spite of marital differences.

"tvnowtony," the person who posted this Linda Purl video on Youtube, described Desi Jr. as "longtime friend" of Linda's. Someone inquired about that description, pointing out that Linda and Desi Jr. had actually been married. tvnowtony responded: "I asked Linda how she wanted me to define their relationship. They are still good friends, so I left it at that. Will ask her if she wants me to add the former husband tag."

I was so ecstatic when I heard that Desi Jr. was marrying Linda Purl. I always found her to be a cutie pie. I never heard what caused them to break up...anyone know?

Well, according to the tabloids, it was because Desi Jr. was a Lothario like his father. But that's the tabloids, so I wouldn't put too much credence in that. I've also heard (and tend to believe) it had something to do with his drug problem at the time.

Oh yeah, Lucy LOVED Linda, as did I, she called her a porcelain doll, i have to get my hands on the tv movies she and Desi jr made together. They were only together for a year, and i have no idea what broke them up, i always assumed it was his drug use at the time. I also assumed it was Lucy who got Linda the job with Lucy's friend Andy Griffith, but i'm probably wrong about that. Remember what Lucy said about SECOND marriages always being much better and it seems it was true for most of them, Lucy had two, as did Desi, and both of their kids, gary had three and Viv had four, i dunno about Bill. Still better track records than Liz or Zsa Zsa, right? LOL!
