Default Spector attorneys quit, delaying murder retrial

Why am I not surprised??

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Phil Spector's lead attorneys told a judge on Wednesday they were quitting the case, delaying the legendary rock figure's murder retrial for several months while he assembles a new defense team.

Prosecutors have said they will try Spector, best known for his "Wall of Sound" recording technique, again for the 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson after the first trial ended last week with the jury deadlocked 10-2 for conviction.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler told both sides he wanted the new trial to begin within four months and set another hearing in the case for October 23.

But Spector's lead attorney Roger Rosen, who is stepping down from the case along with Bradley Brunon and Linda Kenney-Baden, said that might be difficult because Spector's new lawyers would need time to prepare.

Rosen said he was leaving the case in part because, after the first five-month trial, he needed to turn his attention to other clients. He said Spector, 67, also wanted the "fresh perspective" of a new defense team.

"Of course now (Spector) is faced with this ordeal all over again and I'm sure from that point of view he's not happy," Rosen told reporters.

Clarkson, who starred in such films as "Amazon Women on the Moon" and "Barbarian Queen," was found dead in the foyer of Spector's Los Angeles area mock-castle in the early morning hours of February 3, 2003.

Both prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed that Clarkson, 40, was killed by a gunshot through the mouth.

Prosecutors told the jury that Spector, who they say has a history of brandishing firearms at women while drunk, may have killed Clarkson by accident after jamming the gun in her face.

Defense attorneys suggested that Clarkson was depressed over a lull in her acting career and was holding the gun herself when it went off.

Spector, who first gained fame as the mastermind behind the popular "girl groups" of the early 1960s and later worked with the Beatles, Ramones, Tina Turner and Cher, did not testify in his own defense.

I last heard the prosecution may reduce the charges from murder to manslaughter. @$&*(&*^*%^$#@@^^*^* Just to ensure some sort of guilty verdict.

Irene, we really need you and Leonard (freshprinceofla) to become judges in CA!! Maybe even the Supreme Court! I could do a better job getting a conviction. In the words of our resident sage Solomon, these people have oatmeal for brains.

They got something in that big ol' empty space, and it isn't brains. More like sh*t. I know that judge believes he is guilty which is why he tried so hard to get the jury to go back and deliberate. I can tell by what the judge said and how he was. Too bad this wasn't a trial judged by the judge. Those defense attorneys aren't stupid. They knew if it was up to the judge, Spector would be a imprisoned man by now getting his salad tossed by Bubba.

I don't know Irene - he's so creepy, I don't think even the CELLMATES would want him.
