Another episode where the audeince laughed at a serious scene........................
In Florida's Operation, the nurse/receptionist said,(after James complains about the high costs of the hospital stay) "I work here and even I can't afford to get sick." The audience bursts into laughter. How The "F" is that funny? That disturnbed me that a NURSE( receptionist) couldn't afford to get sick, and she worked there. It didn't amuse me. It made me kind of sad.

It's called "gallows humour" laughing at something grim, in order not to cry.
Gallows humour is a type of humor that arises from stressful, traumatic or life-threatening situations such as accidents, wartime events, natural disasters; often in circumstances where death is perceived as impending and unavoidable. It is similar to black comedy but differs in that it is made by the person affected. |
