Is Sherri Shepherd an Idiot?

We've all heard about her statement on "The View" that she has never thought about whether the earth is round or flat. Today, they were discussing Clarence Thomas, and the Anita Hill controversy came up. She said she couldn't really remember any details of that scandal because she was too young at the time. That controversy became public in 1991. Sherri Shepherd was born in 1967. She was 24! Since when is 24 too young to have a clue of what's going on in the world around you? It's old enough to vote, old enough to get into bars and nightclubs, old enough to marry, but not old enough to read the headlines in the newspaper or watch the news on TV?

Maybe because when you're 24 you're only thinking about yourself and making money. You can remember something that happened in the news 15 yrs ago but you wouldn’t remember all of the details. Also a lot of people in their 20’s just don’t care. If you ask some 24yr olds now when are the presidential elections are, or who are all the candidate who are running, I bet that they wouldn’t be able to tell you. So I don’t hold that over Sherry

Well, I find that very sad. That would explain why the country is in the sorry mess it's in now. Politicians love an ignorant population; it allows them to get away with everything they do. I was in my '20s during the Clarence Thomas hearings and followed them very closely. To me, it seems a civic duty to follow these things. I think it's very possible to be career minded and civic minded at the same time.

I really wonder how much of what she says is simply a way for her to avoid talking abt something she doesn't want to comment on or just talk abt. I mean, she is a comedian and I can see her saying a lot of things simply for fun, to be sarcastic, to be cynical, etc. I don't watch the View so I can't say much abt how she is talking with those ladies. I mean, if she says she thought abt being a pole dancer, do you honestly think she means it?

I wish that were the reason for her comments, but from what remember that happened this morning is that everyone at the table was having a discussion about Justice Thomas -- everyone except Sherri. She just sat there without saying a word. Somebody finally asked her what her thoughts were, and that was her response, that she was too young to know what was going on. I also heard the flat earth comment, which you can find on Youtube. What happened there is she was saying she didn't believe in evolution. Whoopi asked what was intended to be a rhetorical question about whether she believed the earth was flat. Whoopi expected her to respond, "of course not." Instead Sherri shocked everybody by saying she didn't know and never thought about it. And she went on to explain that she has more important things to think about -- like feeding her kids -- than whether the earth is flat or round, as if you can't feed your kids and know whether the earth is round at the same time. The next day, she tried to explain away why she said that, but her explanation didn't make sense. Suffice it to say she's not too bright.

Her excuse is because she's too young?!!!! I was ten years old at the time and I remember this quite well!

Yeah that's what I was discussing when I included her in my Weekly rant. She doesn't have the ability ti join in and contribute to serious discussions so when those topics do come up she feels out of place because she is not intelligent. she was just added to the show to be a CLOWN and not really get involved in anything that's serous because that's the only time she can't tell dumb jokes

I think it sends the wrong message to young people: you can be stupid and get a nice cushy job on a national television show. Isn't the point of this show to have people offering their points of view on different issues? If one of the participants is unfamiliar with the issues being discussed, then what value does she add?

I agree with you that that seems to be what she's become on the show, a clown. But could that be all Barbara Walters had intended for her to be? Maybe this is a lack of judgment on Barbara's part.

She is supposed to be a FUNNY PART of the show and she can't even do that right

Who said that? There are three comics and one journalist on the show, I have no idea what EH is. But it wasn't said that Sherry was suppose to be the funny one.
