I have seen many of the color episodes, and Aunt Bee, 95% of the time, is wearing some shade of blue (the only other colors I can recall seeing her in are grey -- but on the bluish side, of course, and also a tweed-like suit with a nice greenish pattern). Can anyone shed any light onto the "Let's always dress Aunt Bee in blue" situation?
Maybe it was a preference of Ms. Bavier, who knows? It's the same thing, but with (a hideous shade of) sea green, which seemingly desecrates every single wall in Mayberry! Did they only have one HUGE vat full of this offensive color, so they used it on everything, or what? Anyone??

They did the same thing with Mike Brady in the beginning. He always wore blue. I think it was to bring out his blue eyes.

I imagine the dress color was because Frances Bavier liked it and it didn't matter to anyone else. The wall color bugs me too. That darn green again. My guess is that color photographed better for B&W and when they switched to color episodes they just figured it wasn't that big of a deal and let it slide.
Ya know, "They want to know what everything looks like, well, this is what it looks like." I wished they had changed it too. |
