Default I bought my first comedy! ("Mary Tyler Moore" S1)

I just wanted to let you know that I just yesterday purchased from Amazon the first season's worth of another CBS classic (and the first sitcom to go into my television lineup)-- "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" S1 (1970-71)! I posted on IMDB's boards asking if this was a good enough series to go into my television disc lineup, and they said it was, and just yesterday, I made my decision to purchase it. I'm really looking forward to it.

By the way, I also purchased an NBC classic-- "CHiPs" S1 (1977-78)-- from Amazon, which I am also looking forward to.

It's funny . . . I was thinking about buying it too. Could you tell me a little about (packaging, special features?)

Great set, I was first introduced to the series when I bought the first season as a blind buy. It was such a pleasant surprise and there were some really funny episodes. Also it's loaded with extras and there's a 90 minute documentary on the making of the series. There are commentaries, promos, Emmy clips, photo gallery with pictures of the scripts and original tickets, and a trivia game. The pakaging in a digipak and comes with a booklet with episode descriptions. For those who are curious about the series I definitly recommend it especially since it can be found for about $25.

One of the greatest shows in history. Very funny! Best work place sitcom I've ever seen. Enjoy it!

Couldn't agree more! (Of course, I'm sure no one here is surprised to hear me say that! LOL) Thanks for buying S1, since future sales are unfortunately in jeopardy. Maybe it'll help convince Fox to release S5, or at least sell the rights to someone who will!

Feel free to come visit the MTM show board. We can always use more discussion! LOL

I actually purchased it from one of Amazon's affiliated sellers for less than that. If you purchase from affiliated sellers (what, I believe, Amazon calls its "Marketplace"), all you pay in addition to a reduced base price is shipping and handling-- you don't pay taxes (at least, I didn't have to).

You're welcome for it. As I said in the original post, I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait to audition it to see if it was as good as they said it was.

They have all four seasons at Wal-Mart for $20 (Season 1 is actually $15). What a steal for such a great show. The first four seasons are the best IMHO as Rhoda was on the show. After she left it just was not as funny for me. However, I still want the final three seasons (are you guys at Fox listening here??) as well as the last two for The Bob Newhart Show. I really don't think you can go wrong starting off your comedy collection with season one of MTM.

Thanks very much, storrs19. This, and also the late-'70's classic "Taxi" (which James L. Brooks also created in addition to "MTM"), are two possibilities that I have considered for my television lineup (I had the opportunity to rent "Taxi" S1 from Netflix, and I laughed my head off at it). Three that I have determined will never see the light of day, however, are "Seinfeld," "Friends," and "Everybody Loves Raymond," none of which, in my opinion, were funny.

I knew you'd agree, Erin! Fox is just being ridiculous! New fans will prob. never be able to see S5-7, and those are some of the best eps, IMO.

Aw, yeah. WAKE UP, FOX! lol... Let's hope and "pray" that the last 3 Seasons *do* come out on DVD.
