....on a DVD; where are the people who are doing it; sitting? And are they LISTNING to the show, as well as watching it? Because on a commentary that Dick van Dyke and Carl Reiner do on an episode of Dicks show; Carl says at one point that they're watching it without the sound.

Good question....I would imagine they're sitting and watching along, that's what I've imagined while watching a commentary.

Basically they're in some type of recording studio and are watching the episodes, usually with sound. Some shows have Video Commentary which might help you visualize it, for example: Boy Meets World: Season 2 and Roseanne: Seasons 4,5,8,& 9

ON SOME DVD'S SOME COMMENTARIES OF THE CAST OR PERSON BEING INTERVIEWED WILL POP UP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN AS YOUR WATCH AN EPISODE. AND HE/SHE WILL EXPLAIN WHAT WAS HAPPENING AT THAT POINT OF THE EPISODE. I LIKE THAT IT'S LIKE WERE WATCHING IT TOGATHER. (IT'S NICE TO SEE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE TODAY IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THEM IN A LONG WHILE BUT THEY ARE IN A STUDIO.

The only TV DVDs i have are the ones for Corner Gas, they take place in a little recording studio while the actors watch the show live (Presumably on a monitor) and as far as i can tell, ad-lib their comments on the spot!

Its a sitcom currently playing on WGN superstation in the USA ( and CTV here in Canada )...theres several threads on Corner Gas in the Current Sitcoms Forums

I love to watch commentaries on any DVD I buy. My favourite commentaries are on the Buffy the Vampire Series DVDs. In most of them you actually learn stuff about the show, but all of them are funny as heck!
