If I see a Lucy tape or DVD in the grocery store in the $7.99 bin, I'll buy it! There's nothing to lose. I bought 2 sets of "The Lucy Show" that way. Of course, they aren't the best, but it's something!
I dug out an old tape I bought years ago called "Lucy's Lost Episodes," which I bought mainly out of curiosity, because I know there are no "lost episodes" in existence. What it was, was a collection of some other types of appearances by Lucy and Desi. It features: -A 1954 live skit from "The Toast of the Town" with Ed Sullivan where they manhandled him and got him to laugh. -A 1955 live skit from "The Bob Hope Show" where Bob plays Ricky, Desi plays Fred, and Lucy and Viv are Lucy and Ethel, and it involves a live seal in the closet. Bill appears as a sea captain. Lucy has to ad-lib because the seal escapes from the closet! -A 1956 live skit from "The Toast of the Town" that plugs their new movie "Forever Darling," and Lucy appears in disguise as one of the Ames Brothers. They discover her when she hits one of her sour notes. -A 1959 promotional film, never aired on TV, produced by Westinghouse, the new sponsor of the "Desilu Playhouse." It includes a tour of Desilu Studios (formerly RKO) where Lucy and Desi first met and fell in love, and a lot of gags. -Some of Lucy's own footage of outtakes, and some bloopers that occured after 45 minutes in cold water with porpoises at Marineland. But the best one to see is the Arnaz' 1955 appearance on "What's My Line," when they stumped the panel with disguised voices and back and forth answers. If anyone can find this clip and post the link, it would really be worthwhile!

You might want to check any thrift stores in your area such as the Goodwill or Salvation Army. I saw 5 sealed I Love Lucy tapes titled Babalu Music and a sealed dvd of The Lucy Show this week while shopping.

I would still love to get a better version of the "What's My Line" segment. |
