Post One Question that's been bothering me...

Why does everyone hate Rick so much? Just give me honest answers, no "Cuz he's Rick" or something like that. I really wanna know, cuz I really like him!

Ok, I'll go. Someone once said it in one word, underdeveloped. For me and many others, it was the fact that their relationship wasn't based on anything. We never saw them fall in love, never got to find out what Jo saw in him. He was in like 3 episodes before they decided to get married, and only one of them did they actually go on a date. First, he was a weird guy who thought he was going to die before he turned 30 (which in my book made him too old for Jo) then all of the sudden they were dating, then out of nowhere, BAM, they're in love and they want to get married. Why? We don't know, they never showed us. As far as we were concerned they had been on like 3 dates and he had done nothing more than act like a goofball. Not to hold anything against goofballs, but there just needs to be something else there. To those people who are like, Jo superfans, nobody would be good enough to marry Jo. But they could have at least attempted to show us that maybe he would come sort of close to being good enough for her. But they just didn't develop their relationship enough. It was just sort of like, "Oh, man, we only have like 3 episodes to go and two of them have to be about Blair. Let's just make them get married. Who cares if they'll just get engaged and then the ceremony will miraculously be a day later, and who cares if Mrs. Garrett is too busy to show up. Let's just marry them, and then have Rick go away so that Jo can stay living in the house with the girls so it will be as though nothing changed. Yeah, that'll work." WRONG! It didn't work. Not for me at least. I hope that long-winded answer will give you some idea. Just one other thing, I don't hate Rick. I just hate what they did with him.

Thank you! Now, I can understand why someone wouldn't like that, I don't like it either. But does anyone have anything against him, not the way they made him? Like, any character flaws? Now, I know his goofiness could be considered, but a lot of people call him a piano playing jerk. Now, why does piano playing stick out above the rest? Okay, that's my new question. And Coily2, I hope you answer this! I mean, what if I came out and said that I hate Jo only because she married Rick? Y'all woud kill me, that's what! So, practically what a lot of you are saying is, I don't like Rick because he married Jo, and she could have found someone better. But think about it, what if she didn't want someone better? I can think of a lot of things wrong with Teddy, but you don't see me saying Jinny should find another guy! Now, TVaddict, I'm not talking to you, or anyone else that thinks like you. I'm just stating my side of the arguement to others out there. Can you tell I've wanted to be a lawyer for 3 years? Ok, that's enough for this session, court will dismiss for a breif recess. ITA agree with TVAddict, but I also can't stand the Rick character. Piano playing is artzy and people who are into the arts are usually stereotyped (usually unfairly and the writers could be criticized for having a very stereotypical character) as being a little out there and Rick was definitely out there. Furthermore, in my life I'm very straightfoward to the point that my mouth should be taped shut and I make fun of people who are, well, like Rick. I have a good friend who definitely has her moments and its all in good fun! It's not just the whole rush into the wedding, the character was "too out there" for my own personal tastes.

Well said, everyone so far. But one of the things is that Rick was the kind of goofy guy you like to see a friend date, not marry. There were a couple of other guys who Jo had gone out with who had just as limited screentime but still had been developed a little more. I'm thinking of that guy from the Bronx that nobody could remember the name of or Bill from season 5. Both of those guys had been developed enough that we saw an attraction between the two characters. We missed that on Rick.

Ok, now I understand it better. One more point, I don't feel that piano playing is artsy. I've been playing it for seven years, and I'm not "out there," am I? You probably couldn't even tell if you spent a lot of time with me that I did that. I also play a lot of other musical instruments, but it still doesn't change the way I act. But I do agree that they could have developed him more. You know, I kind of liked Flyman! Ok, enough talking, I'm tired, and my chest hurts (long story).
