Universal's Horrible DVDs
Is there any way to get replacement dvd's from Universal or am I just out over $200? My sets of AHP Season1, Dragnet 1967, Adam-12 Season 1, and both seasons of The Munsters. I have tried all of these in 4 different dvd players and on my computer and no soap. They will not play in any of them.
I had trouble from the start when I bought them, but apparently over the years they have just conked out and are now completely unplayable. This is freaking ridiculous that such a lack of quality control exists. I did burn the first 28 episodes of AHP Season 1 onto my own dvd's (it took 7 to do it but hey, they still work) back when I first started having trouble. I wish compaines were not so damned cheap and would just put more discs in a set instead of cramming so much information on a single dvd. The stupidest thing is that every episode is on each dvd twice. First as an individual episode and then all lumped together as a huge 7GB+ file. That is just dumb. I never use the "play all" feature anyway as I rarely want to sit through 4 hours of the same show no matter what show it is. Anyway I know many out here have had problems and was just wondering if anyone has had any success with getting replacements. I actually do have the receipts from when I purchased these still in the box with them. |

DVD's I have from Universal are Leave It To Beaver, Emergency!, and The Munsters. I don't like the dual sided DVD's, but so far I haven't had problems with any of them. So I don't know what to tell ya. Perhaps you should invest in a new DVD player. I have a Toshiba DVD/VCR, no problems playing any of the DVD's as long as they are in minus format. I can record from VCR to DVD and also from DVD to VCR. It's a nice machine.

AS A MATTER OF FACT I'VE NEVER COMPLAINED ABOUT ANY OF THE DISK THAT THE STUDIOS USE I THINK THEIR VERY GOOD DISKS (I WISH I KNEW WHAT KIND THEY USE). I HAVE OVER 150 TV SERIES. & OVER 3,000 MOVIES. NO PROBLEM AT ALL UNLESS I RECORD A MOVIE OR SITCOM FROM TELEVISION ONTO A BLANK DISK MYSELF. OR MAYBE THE DISKS OR DVD NEEDS CLEANING. YOU SHOULD TRY CLEANING YOUR DVD. COULD BE THE PROBLEM. |

Yep that's another good suggestion, a DVD cleaner. You can pick one up at Radio Shack for about 15 bucks. It will clean the lens on your DVD deck. If the lens gets dusty, it will not read the DVD properly and the disc will skip or freeze up. You even have to check the DVD's themself for dust or lint before you insert them into the deck because if the discs are dirty, the lens will pick up on that too and the disc won't play properly.

That's what I thought...at first. Then I tried them in my PC and my mom's dvd player and no dice. I do use a dvd lens cleaner on a regular basis as I watch a ton of dvds (due to a lack of anything I like being on tv). No other dvds give me fits, just the Universal ones. I have dual sided ones from WB (Gilligan's Island) and they play fine. I guess it is just bad luck on my part with these sets. Hopefully, Universal is done with the dvd-18's as AHP Season 2 was on normal dvd-9's. Thanks for the suggestions though, I was just curious if this was an isolated issue as it seems to be.
