I did a search and there really wasn't a thread on this so I will make one..
I liked this episode... This is the first episode of the 6th season right? It seems they were trying to give Beaver a part in the show but he was trying to get a current events story... I liked how Ward helped Wally out and how his past caused him to not want June or him to not want to embarrass Wally... Gosh, can't imagine any mother going to a resturant and giving Ward his wallet... Poor Ward... For once, it's a good thing June was nosy... Has that ever happened to you guys? Realize you don't have much money when the bill comes? |

Yeah, this is the first episode of Season 6. It's a good one. I've often been in a situation where I don't have enough money, but it's usually at a store. I don't remember this ever having happened to me in a restaurant. Thank goodness! I liked the way Ward handled the situation as well. I'm sure it was just an honest mistake on Wally's part. From what I remember, the restaurant turned out to be a lot more expensive than he thought. Either that or his date ordered a more expensive meal than he expected her to.

Glad it never happened on a date, though if it had I would hope my dad would do what Ward did. |

That's why I always carry at least one piece of plastic, just in case. Don't leave home without it !

Yes, I liked how Ward handled the stuation too. He's able to put himself in his children's shoes. To many parent's seem to forget what it's like to be kid

I like this episode. What guy of that age wouldn't like taking Cheryl Holdridge out to dinner? Also, how Ward handles the matter and how the waiter also goes along, even asking, "you are Wallace Cleaver, are you not?".
However, I have found one slight error in it. I think the restaurant in the story is the "White Fox". Wally hears of it and it's mentioned about it being newly opened. On the other hand, when Wally mentions it to his father, Ward notes that his company often takes clients there. If it was a new business, how long could the company have been taking people to it? It's really not important to a nice episode, but I do recall that part of it. |

I LOVE this episode!!!!!
The part where Wally gets nervous and the Mater 'D at first says he doesn't have a table for Julie and he that night. When he hangs up. Beaver says something like, "Boy Wally! That's a break, now you don't have to go out with her at all!" LOL! Beaver's looking through the paper for a Current Event for school in the living room and Wally has a conniption and starts kicking the papers!!! "Look Beaver, why don't you pick up all this mess!!!??" I would not be surprised if Tony ad-libbed that paper kicking sequence! Jack |

"Wally's Dinner Date" was the 1st episode aired in season 6, but was the 3rd episode produced for that season. "Wally's License" was the 1st episode produced for season 6, followed by "Wally Buys A Car". Leave It To Beaver original run episodes didn't usually air in production order, but now with the DVD's, for continuity purposes it's best to watch the shows in the order they were produced.

Cheryl Holdridge certainly was a dream date. She's also entertaining on an episode of The Rifleman where young Mark (Johnny Crawford) falls head-over-heels in love. Very sad that Cheryl has passed away.
