Default OK Catlover, I found out all about Bill Belechick's history in Cleveland from 91-95

First I want to thank you for bringing to my attention that Bill was a coach in Cleveland because I never knew he was the oach of the browns, probably because I was 16 at the time and then was in college during his last two years in Cleveland. But after doing research this morning I found out

Owner Art Modell felt he was too shy, and withdrawn to be a headcoach and didn't reate well to his players

The Fans of Cleveland was pissed wen Bill benched Bernie Kosar and one fan ever buried his season tickets

Berne Kosar and Bill Belechick never got along

Bill felt Bernie Kosar was too slow and his arm was to gimpy to be a NFL QB

Fans of Cleveland hated Bill Belechick

Bernie Kosar would ignore the plays sent into him by Belechick and called his own plays

THINGS I NEVER KNEW-lol

I used to listen to a Cleveland radio sports station at night back then and the fans hated him with a passion. Replacing Bernie Kosar with Vinnie Testaverde was stupid. Of course Bernie went to Dallas as a backup to Troy Aikman and won a SB so it worked out well for him in the end.

I never really thought Bernie was qualified to be a NFL QB. He was very slow and always threw side arml-lol And don't even get me started on his mobility. I don't think it was nothing wrong with Bill Belechick doing what he felt was best for the team. Regardless of whether the fans liked him or not Bill was paid to coach not please the fans. Cleveland fans sound just as stupid as philly fans-lol

Bernie did lead the Browns to 3 AFC Title games though and Vinnie especially back then was a real bad NFL QB. Every other pass he threw seemed to be an interception. This is before he turned his career around playing for the Jets. Vinnie wasn't very mobile either.

Yeah he did but I think he was more suited for the back up role

Bernie Kosar did lead Cleveland to 3 AFC title games in 4 years. Cleveland also hasn't had a good quarterback since Kosar.

And for the record on the day Kosar was cut, Testaverde was hurt and they started Tood Philcox that week. Now tell me how that makes sense, that is not whats best for the team. Also after Bellichick cut Kosar, they pretty much played horribly. Kosar still holds the record for consecutive attempts without an interception. Testaverde never came close to that. Cleveland needs another player like Kosar. His popularity has been unmatched by any player to play for the Browns since him. Bill Bellichick is one of the reasons I stopped watching the Browns, and didn't until after they came back in 1999.

Fans of Cleveland hated Bill Bellichick because of how he treated Kosar, btw.
That and the fact his play calling was horrible. If Bernie was calling his own plays, it was simply because that "Metcalf up the middle" play didn't work.

But you still have to respect your coach and run the plays he told you to run

I don't know that was the case. I'm just taking your word for it.

That was the case, I stumbled across a sports illustrated article from 1993 and he ignored the plays sent in by Belechick

I remember so well that night in 1993 when Bill cut Bernie...I was in 8th grade. Everyone was up in arms, as mentioned before. That Christmas my Girl Scout leader's son and I always sang "Bill Belechick got run over by a reindeer". Of course, Bernie had the last laugh when he hooked up with Dallas and ended up with a Super Bowl ring.

Before the Browns left after the 1995 season, Bill's face showed up on the Jumbotron at Jacobs Field during an Indians game (it was an advertisement between innings for some new sports show). The fans in the ballpark immediately started booing!!

Bernie still does commentary for the Browns on several local sports shows. In fact, I just saw him on TV a couple of days ago. He will always be one of Cleveland's most beloved sons.

I'll always be grateful to Bernie for coming to Dallas. He helped us win that NFC Chanpionship game against the 49ers after Aikman went out.

Please don't make Bernie Kosar more than what he was, the cowboys had emmit snith and great receivers. They could have put anyone of us at QB and they still would have won. So don't give me that BERNIE help Dallas reach the SB-lol
