Thoughts About the Two Main Classic Episodes - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I'm a fan of "I Love Lucy" and I was watching some episodes on DVD the past couple nights. A thought occured to me. I like the two main classics Vitameatavegamin and the Chocolate Factory episodes, HOWEVER, they're not favorites of mine. I much enjoy the John Wayne episode or the episode where Lucy disquises that hunk of cheese as her baby on the airplane more than the two main classics.

So my question is, do you think those two "Classic" episodes should be the two most popular episodes of "I Love Lucy"? I don't. Like I say, they're funny and memorable, but I like most of the other episodes more. In fact, I almost never choose to watch those two when I'm deciding which episode to watch on DVD.

For me, the Vitameatavegamin and the Chocolate Factory are great SCENES! The most memorable scenes in the history of television, however I do agree, the whole episodes per se are not my faves.

I love the episodes that tend to grab my attention from beginning to end. I love seeing the Ricardos in Hollywood, those are some of my favorite EPISODES, and I can name others, but I do know what you mean and I do agree.

To say that those two episodes are the "classics," I would agree, but there are so many others. If I posted one picture from the favorites, the list would go on for yards!

I tend to enjoy the ones that are off the beaten path. It's just like a song: they can play it to death on the radio and have top ten ratings, but many times the other songs on the album are better.

I agree with both of you. Those two episodes had great scenes, but are not my favorite episodes overall. In fact, I'm not to crazy about "Job Switching," doesn't really make me laugh. I love the Vitameatavegamin scene, but I think the early scene with Lucy in the television set is weak and disturbing. I mean, what's funny about a man trying to electrocute his wife! It's hard for me to pick favorite episodes because I have so many favorites, but several that spring to mind are "The Operetta," "Lucy is Enceinte," "The Great Train Robbery," and "Return Home from Europe." For a long time, "L.A. at Last" was my favorite.

I couldn't agree more, people! To me, the episodes "Job Switching" & "Lucy's Italian Movie" are without a doubt classics indeed & while I adore the episodes, they are not my favorite. It's just like when people find out I'm a "Lucy" fan. They'll be like, "Oh, so am I. My favorite episode is the chocolate/candy factory one." Or they'll say "I'm a big I Love Lucy fan, too. I love the grape one." To me, these are not big I Love Lucy fans/collectors like we are. They just simply like the show and that's all. I just don't think these people are deep/hardcore fans like we are. The episodes mentioned are classic without a doubt. But other than those two, there other ones that are classic to me.

Seems like us hardcore lovers are in agreement here. First of all, I seen the Italian grape-stomping episode today. Believe me, there is nothing going on until that famous scene comes on. It is rather bland from the point they get off the train to when Lucy is finally seen walking into the place where the ladies are waiting to stomp grapes.

I much prefer the FULL episode of when Lucy is trying to make the birthday call to Little Ricky. There is so much going on there. The walk up the flight of stairs, Ricky slamming his head on that bed, seeing them go up and down over and over those darn steps, the little boy (Bart Braverman) lying abt it being his birthday and so forth, there is just so much going on overall.

Here are, in my opinion, the most famous moments of "I Love Lucy." That doesn't necessarily mean they are the best, just universally known. When someone claims any of these are their favorites, I say "yeah, that's a good one," and know where they are coming from. There is no way to have any further meaningful discussion.

I will post the real great moments later. It will take some time.

It's hard to pick the two most outstanding/classic episodes as so many are outstanding. It really comes down to personal taste. "Lucy Does A TV Commercial" and "Job Switching" are extremely funny episodes, and on a VHS set I bought 6 years ago--the set touted the 10 most popular episodes. And I must say this set did pick great eps. However, "Return Home From Europe", the one where she smuggles the cheese on the airplane, is my personal all time favorite, and wasn't on the set. I was lucky to find it on another VHS set. Thanks for mentioning this episode. If I have to pick my two all time favs they would be "Lucy Does A TV Commercial" and "Return Home From Europe". Followed closely by many others.

I had seen the Vitameatavegimin clip of her getting drunk for years before I actually saw the entire episode. I never knew she came out at the end and messed up Ricky's song. That part is just as funny, I think.

Although The Chocolate Factory technically has two big comedy scenes, the primary focus is the girls in the candy wrapping scene.

Exactly. Your sentiments are just like mine. I love a whole episode that can catch my attention, rather than just a big scene. That is not to say I don't like the famous "classic episodes", I am merely saying if I had to make a list of my fave episodes, those classic episodes would not be at the top. The only episode I don't like is the dream episode. The next one that comes in is Little Ricky's play, but if I had to choose which of those two I would prefer to watch, it would be Little Ricky's play.

I love the L.A. episodes each were supurb and the guest stars were good sports to be humiliated by our favorite red head.

The episodes that were my favorite whole episode is when Lucy thought everyone forgot her bday and she makes friends while feeling sorry for herself at the park. I howled when she entered the club playing the drum and when she learns that they didn't forget her bday, makes me choke up. Another is the episode before they go to L.A. for Ricky's audition Lucy schemes to be discovered, I love the line she says. "That Face! That Face! "Get me That Girl". I also liked the episode in which Ricky bets Lucy that she can't go without telling a lie. I howled when Ethel tries to make her lie about Caroline's outfit. Then Lucy goes overboard telling the truth and getting the gang to get mad at each other.
