Secondhand Smoke Lowers Test Scores Prenatal Smoking Not As Big A Factor

Students who live with smokers don't do as well on standardized tests, a researcher said.

Bradley Collins of Temple University said in a study that 16- and 18-year-olds who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home are 30 percent less likely to pass the tests.

A news release said the study was designed to account for factors such as family income, gender, prenatal exposure to smoking and whether the students themselves smoked.

The study also found that exposure before birth did not affect test scores.

Collins said that the work shows parents how important it is to limit smoking around children, even if they can't quit.

The study did not reveal, however, why secondhand smoke influenced failure on tests.

As an asthmatic non-smoker, I can deffinately say that second hand smoke is one of the things I hate the most. it boggles my mind that ANYONE would volunteerily let something that smells so toxic and vile into their own bodies! ( I litterally cant breath around smokers )
