Default Dezi

Check out the television credits in season five (Europe). It lists Wilbur Hatch conducting the DEZI Arnaz Orchestra. The mistake was corrected when the DVD's were produced.

Why his name would have been spelled wrong after four seasons is beyond me. Maybe the graphics guys should have looked to see who signed their paychecks!

I recall years ago Bart Andrews explaining this error in his book. It was an error made (obviously) by the company that put together the show's credits. As some of the show's staff had possibly changed since the fourth season, it was necessary to create the new credits. But by the time these credits were submitted to the Desilu folks and the error was discovered, it was too late for a last minute correction or Desi decided it wasn't worth the trouble or cost at that point to redo them, and just went ahead with the misspelling until the credits were revamped again for the sixth season.

Thanx for that.

Madame and I have that yellow book by Bart Andrews. I know I haven't read the book for a long while. I do look at the episode guide from time to time, but like I said, I haven't read the book in some time, so I can't recall reading that. I will have to check it out again.

Yeah, it may be in that book, I'm not sure. I think where I remember reading it was in his first book, "Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel: The Story of 'I Love Lucy'" (the "R-rated" predecessor to the much-edited yellow book)

I have seen some orginal broadcast prints from the 5th season and Desi's name is spelled correctly. However, some that I have seen from season 6 spells it Dezi .... Go figure!

I never bought the first book, unfortunately. Didn't have the money at the time. But I checked it out from the library and renewed it over and over and over again, for close to a year!
