One thing that I think is quite interesting is a change in point of view on Mrs. Brady's part between seasons two and three. In the episode titled "Click" we find Greg "very" reluctant to tell his mother that he made the football team! She was "terrified" that he might get hurt! Mr. Brady and Greg really had to twist her arm to get her to agree to let him play. Now let us look one season earlier to the episode titled "Drummer Boy". In this episode, Peter was on the football team and nothing got made of it! I wonder what happened in the course of a year that made Mrs. Brady more of a worrier! I would think that if Peter had played and got hurt, Mrs. Brady would have used that as a case and point as to why she would not allow Greg to play. However, if Peter never suffered any injuries, Greg would want to know why it was okay for Peter to play a season earlier and it was now not okay for him to play! What to other viewers think of this inconsistency!

While there was certainly and inconsistency there in Carol's attitude, I think it's also possible that she thought that the level of football that Pete was playing was OK, but she thought of varsity high school players as being much bigger and stronger and, therefore , more of a threat to Greg's health (even though Greg himself was physically bigger and stronger than Peter)...

Peter was playing on a "little league" level team (maybe Pop Warner), and a parent would not look at kids who are that size as being a threat..but high school varsity players are bigger than a lot of parents themselves are (including Carol) so she thought that Greg stood a greater chance of being hurt, since the odds were that he was likely to run into a number of players who were bigger, stronger and more aggressive than he was himself.

But you're absolutely right about Carol's inconsistent position. It's also possible that she didn't think of the football that Pete played as "real" football, whereas a high school varsity team WAS "real" football and therefore more dangerous.

I think that both of the respondees to this thread made some "very" good points about the lack on continuity between these two episodes! On top of the change in attitude from episode to episode, there is another piece of illogic that I would like to point out! Early in the episode when Mr. Brady returned home from work he supported Greg in what he said about what he wanted to say to his mother being about football. Greg then said that he supposes that his mother does not know too much about football. Mrs. Brady responded with "I do too! It's that game that you and your father watch in which two ton monsters try to kill each other!" If we are supposed to buy the notion that the events in "The Drummer Boy" did in fact happen, the logical response for Mrs. Brady to give would be "of course I know about football! I have a son who played it last year!"

Furthermore, for those of you who like to discuss continuity issues, I would like to direct you attention to two posts that I have made in the recent past. To start with, I would like you to know that I am the most recent poster on the "Nurses" page of this site. The thread that I started there is called "Brother". This is about two episodes of that series that "clearly" controdicted each other! On top of this, on August 7th, I made various posts on the "Gimme a Break!" page of this site. You will have to scroll down a ways to get to this post. The thread was started by somebody else and I have made several responses. The thread that I am talking about is "Fave Season One Quotes". Mine in the most recent post on that thread. This has to do with a group of people who have reversed the process of evolution in terms of how they think. The two episodes that I am referring to are "Julie's First Love" and "Samanth's Protest." "Samantha's Protest" is an episode that I have also started my own thread in regards to. If you look up my pen name on these various threads, you will see where the continuity issue comes in. I would be "very" interested in what other viewers think of my comments on any of these threads!

I think it's like that on all shows... I have noticed on Leave It To Beaver things like June not wanting 12 year old Beaver home alone but in earlier seasons, Beaver was allowed to stay home alone or Wally would watch him.

I think that the last few posters have made some very good points about continuity always being an issue on this sereis. I can think of a "bunch" of different cases in which things happened in various episodes that controdicted things in previous episodes! There is one thing that I posted over a month ago and that got a few responses. However, because of how many new threads have been started, mine is burried "way" down towards the bottom! I have decided that, rather then backtrack and dig it up and bring it back to the top, I will simply exptress this idea again. The two episodes that I found to be inconsistant were "Our Son the Man" and "A Room At the Top". In the fomrer episode, Greg was a Freshman in high school and in want of some privacy and elbow room. Because of this, he started bellyaching about wanting a bedroom of his own. Both Mike and Carol tried to deal with this issue logically. Mrs. Brady suggested the attic and Mr. Brady said, "that would be great if Greg were two feet tall"! Three years later, the family has decided to get rid of a whole bunch of stuff that they do not use anymore and that had been stored in the attick. With Greg now being a senior, he is bellyaching "again" about not getting any privacy and wanting to move out! With the attic cleaned out, we find that it is now a walk-up type with windows and everything! Greg suggests converting it into an extra bedroom for himself. After some discussion, Mr. and Mrs. agree to let him do just that. I always wondered what happened in between episodes that changed the size and design of the attic!
