Default The European Trip...

Ricky tells Fred that he can't take Lucy because he will be very busy and won't have time to sightsee and other stuff. Wait hold on a there buster... Ricky was very busy on the cruise ship BUT! after that, he had plenty of time, they did sightseeing and even went hiking in the Swiss Alps. Hell, they rode bikes from Italy to France! He also mentions this trip is only three weeks.

Hmmm. Let's see...

Ricky performed at the Palladium in London (all he did was crack a whip while Lucy did the work).

He met with Charles Boyer in France to discuss a "possible" assignment on the "Four Star Playhouse" (never happened).

He waited for his band to arrive in Lucerne (they never played there).

His band (who we never see) played a dinner show in Nice.

The rest of the time he: bailed Lucy out of the Bastille, took a bicycle trip, hiked in the Swiss Alps, designed an original Paris gown, went on a fox hunt, appeared in a dream, spent a day calling Little Ricky from Italy, met with "his French agent."

By golly! He was busy!

With the memories of Hollywood still fresh in his mind you can't blame him for making up that "I'll be too busy" excuse to try to keep Lucy from going. lol!

Yep! He was too busy on the ship, and look what happened in just a couple of hours!

Let's face it, Ricky Ricardo is a big liar. Lucy deserves much better!

Another interesting thing about the European trip, in "The Passports" Lucy reads the trip itinerary: London, Paris, Venice, Holland, the Riviera and Madrid. Later she mentions that they are all taking language lessons; Lucy-French, Ethel-Italian, and Fred-German.

Well, they didn't go to Venice, Holland, Madrid or Germany. They didn't even refer to those places while on the trip. They spent 3 episodes in France and 2 episodes in Italy and 2 episodes in England. They added in Scotland, Switzerland and the bike trip.

I wonder if the writers intended to have episodes about those other countries but had to change for some reason.

I noticed that the other day when they aired that episode. I was like "Madrid?" They never visited Venice, but they did mention it AFTER in the episode The Visitor when the gondolier Mario stayed with them for a while.
