Thumbs up O.J. Simpson arrested in Vegas hotel break-in : CNN

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - O.J. Simpson was questioned by Las Vegas police after a sports memorabilia dealer accused the former star athlete and murder defendant of robbing him at gunpoint, police and others said on Friday.

Simpson, who was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife and her friend in 1995 after one of the most sensational trials in U.S. history, was not charged in the robbery case at a casino hotel and was cooperating in the investigation, police said.

But detectives planned to question Simpson, 60, again about his involvement in the Thursday night incident, which was reported by the memorabilia dealer as an armed robbery in his room at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino.

Las Vegas police were looking for at least two people who were with Simpson in the hotel room during the confrontation.

"The victim stated that one of the suspects involved in the robbery was O.J. Simpson," said police Capt. James Dillon. "The items taken were various sports-related products."

Dillon said detectives could not confirm that weapons were drawn in the room and were studying casino video surveillance tapes.

"We have a report from the victim that there were weapons involved," he said. "We have not determined that at this time and have not recovered any weapons."

Dillon said Simpson, who lives in Florida, "has not been restricted in any form. He can leave Las Vegas."

'ROBBED AT GUNPOINT'

An attorney for Fred Goldman, whose son, Ron, was one of two people Simpson was accused of stabbing and slashing to death on June 12, 1994, said he had spoken with the memorabilia dealer, Alfred Beardsley.

"I was told by Mr. Beardsley that he was robbed at gunpoint by O.J. Simpson in a hotel room in Las Vegas," Goldman lawyer David Cook said.

Beardsley confirmed to Reuters that he had filed a police report about the altercation. He said detectives had asked him not to speak to reporters during the investigation.

An attorney for Simpson could not be reached for comment.

The robbery accusations against Simpson became public on the same day his controversial ghost-written book, "If I Did It," hit retail shelves.

The book offers a hypothetical account of how the celebrated U.S. football running back turned television pitch man and actor might have killed his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

Simpson was acquitted of the murders in 1995 after a trial that was carried live across the country, transfixing Americans. But a civil court jury later found him responsible for the deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages to the Brown and Goldman families.

Irene, I have a feeling you don't like this guy. Why this guy won't just go away and leave us alone is beyond me. He got what he deserved regarding that book, though. Thank goodness someone finally turned the tables on him.

Was I that obvious? Let me say, this guy deserves to be shot, stabbed, assaulted, have his "salad tossed" by a big guy named BUBBA and still live long enough to see the families of his victims standing there and getting the justice they so dearly deserve as they get to get their "licks" on this bastard. Then and only then can he be put to death.

I agree!
I can't stand him. I cringe when I see him on tv or hear his name.

that guy is a murdering bastard . he was and IS guilty of killing and murdering his ex-wife, and her boyfriend and he got away with murder. he should've been locked up for life for his part in this. every time i see him on tv he sickens me and i hate it when people use the race card, particuarly his supporters who insist he was being framed and his name is being smeared all over the press is because he is black and therefore the victim. get ****ing real. it has nothing to do with the colour of his skin. he is and was one lucky SOB- and yet it appalled me more that he has tried to cash in on his repulsive actions and releasing a 'tell all book'. also in the book, did he make an admission that he had killed his wife, from what i've heard that is?

i hope someone beats the living crap out of O.J. and speaking of simpson, he's definitely not one we'd associate with homer, marge, bart, lisa and maggie

Why not? You don't think they could be related? I see a resemblance...

the only thing those two have in common is that they are dumb. well, OJ and homer that is. what makes them stand out from one another is one who cares for and loves his family members even though some of them drive him round the bend, whilst the other has no remorse, is an evil money making **** sucker who killed one of his own members- his estranged wife, as well as her so-called lover. and OJ is, without a shdow of a doubt, the latter of the two

^5. The ONLY real reason he got away with murder is because him and his lawyers played the race card real thick. His supporters looked like fools setting black people for at least 30 years dancing and acting a fool when he was found not gulity.

My problem was if this was a white man who killed his black wife and he was found not gulity, then there would have been yet another riot!

i agree with you in regards to the double standards. if the guy was white and his wife was black, the reaction afterwards would've been one of total condemnation. he should never have been freed, not because he was black- race has nothing to with it and besides there are killers and murderers of all races and colours. why should OJ be treated as if he was innocent? he wasn't innocent- the outcome was a sham and a sheer injustice altogether. there was always something fishy about that trial anyway. i wouldn't be surprised if simpson was shot by a sniper, let alone attacked in the street- the guy is a murderer and he deserves it
