Default The Bicycle Trip episode...question

When the fab four were passing from Italy to France, apparently Ricky took Lucy's napsack over the border since we later learn that Lucy had her passport the entire time in her possession in that napsack. However, the border guard told Lucy the only person who could take the napsack across the border is "the owner". Well then, why was that not stated when Ricky took the napsack across? He is not the owner.

Good point! If they were going to be so strict, they should have never let Ricky across in the first place!

That's what I say. I seen the episode today and I was watching carefully as the trio crossed the border while Lucy was saying her goodbyes to Italy. Later when Lucy tells Ricky over the phone "OH MY GOSH..." and informs him she has her passport in her napsack it is only a matter of crossing the border to get it. Easy task? NOPE. That is why I don't get why all of a sudden this guard was being so picky abt the napsack and the "owner" when he didn't give a hoot who took it across to begin with.

Also, when Ricky had to return to get the napsack and hand it to Lucy, no one mentioned the napsack having to be returned to Italy by the owner. Secondly, why did Ricky travel all the way back by bike? Whey didn't he take a taxi? It was a dirt road, but I don't get the impression it was a "bike only" road.

I seen that episode again today and another thing came to mind when Lucy was pretending to be one of the bicycle racers crossing the border. What did Lucy intend to do had she successfully crossed the border on the bike? She still left her napsack behind WITH HER PASSPORT INSIDE OF IT? She would need that later on. Or could she have gotten another? I have never used a passport so I don't know.

Lucy didn't think of the future, only how she could get out of what she was experiencing at the moment. Getting across the border was the only thing she was concerned about. Everthing else was Ricky's problem.
