I wonder why people stopped watching. The storylines didn't seem that bad to me.

Season 4 the show was on Saturday nights and couldn't compete with Starky and Hutch and in Season 5 the show was on Wednesday Nights and couldn't compete with Eight is Enough

Wow!, that info was very shocking. I could not imagine that the rating were really that bad. I'm glad they did move the show, to allow its full potential.

I think they made adjustments to the George character too, if you noticed in season 6, he was completely different, less irrirtable and more friendly to tom and bentley. I think they had to since he was the star of the show

it's weird, because I always loved George when he was mean and arrogant in the first seasons the best. And, I always thought the show reached it's peak around season 6, after that, the storylines seemed to be "dumbed down".

In the first few seasons, the storylines were smart and very original. I wonder why no one tuned in.

Although, going from 49th to number 1 in the matter of a couple seasons is VERY impressive. It had to be the timeslot.

Yeah it was the Timeslot and the Jeffersons had Good Times as a Lead In during season 4-lol It was referred to as Ghetto Night on CBS in 1976-lol Found that out in a Jet Magazine from 1978

I thought the last season's ratings were in the thirties. Going from #19 to #56doesn't seem right, even for The Jeffersons.

CBS put it up against The A-Team in the last season

Norman Lear must have had a lot of pull with CBS to keep the show on after the 4th & 5th season. Because those ratings are pretty bad....

Fortunately ratings are not the complete end all and be all. The Jeffersons is NEVER EVER #56 or #49 in my book.

Thank God it survived being cut.
