Oh No Kanye West: MTV Exploited Britney for Ratings

Link

NEW YORK - Kanye West blames MTV for Britney Spears' less than stellar performance at the Video Music Awards.

"Man, they were just trying to get ratings, and they knew she wasn't ready and they exploited her," the 29-year-old rapper said Tuesday on Sirius Satellite Radio's "The Morning Mash Up."

The network made a "bad move" by having the troubled pop star open Sunday's event in Las Vegas, said West, who feels he should have kicked off the show with "Stronger," the first single from his new album, "Graduation."

"They exploited her, they played me and I really don't mess with MTV," he said.

Spears, 25, looked unprepared while performing her new song, "Gimme More," to a bewildered audience of her music industry peers. She seemed nervous and, at times, stopped singing altogether.

West said he wanted to perform "Stronger" on the show's main stage — where R&B hotshot Chris Brown wowed the crowd with Michael Jackson-esque dance moves — but complied when he was asked to host a suite party.

West said it was a blow to the ego when Justin Timberlake, who also hosted a suite party, ended up "on the big stage" to give the closing performance with Timbaland and Nelly Furtado.

"Those are the big things, and you know what I do man, I really made the song `Stronger,' you know, for stadiums," he said.

MTV spokesman David French didn't immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press seeking comment.

West — who threw a tantrum backstage after losing all five categories for which he was nominated — said he has bonded with 50 Cent over what they view as disrespectful behavior from MTV.

"So why do you have me do `Stronger' in a suite, but you end the show with Justin?" he said. "I looked at 50 like, yo, we need to help each other as much as possible."

50 Cent has said he'd stop making solo records if West's new album outsells his "Curtis" CD in their first week out. Both albums were released Tuesday.

i agree with him though, they did exploit her. MTV knew she was gonna blow but they still said this was gonna be an amazing performance.

I'm going to have to agree and disagree. They should have never let her peform at all but lets put the blame on Britney too, she should have brought her A game that night and she blew it, not MTV. Instead of prepping, she partied all night the night before her peformance and for someone who really wants to make a comeback you have to give it your all and give up a few things.

And besides, Kayne didn't give a rat's ass about MTV exploiting her, he doesn't care about Britney, he cares about himself, he was more concered about him being on the big stage more than anything(The show overall sucked except for Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Chris Brown who brought their A game. Chris and Alicia blew everyone away. That is how you peform!)

I'm sure Britney's performance gave the VMA's thier best ratings in a long time

The ratings have been slipping a lot the past few years, so why not put America's biggest train wreck in the opening number?

Kanye's a big baby. Justin Timberlake is a bigger star than he is, Timbaland is the guy everyone wants to work with and MTV wanted them on as much as possible.

Awww...Kanye and Fitty are being exploited by MTV. Don't pull the race card out on MTV dude. They were around long before you came along, and they'll still be there after you've faded away.

Hold the phone everyone! It appears Kanye is a big fat liar!

Just got this off of TMZ.com...

Kanye Krazy?
Kanye West has made it clear -- he don't want his MTV. Or does he?

Blaming the music channel for Britney Spears' public meltdown, West put the network on blast, saying, "They exploited her, they played me and I really don't mess with MTV." West was upset because he says he wanted to perform his new single, "Stronger," on the show's main stage, but was relegated to a "suite" performance by the network, even though Justin Timberlake, who also performed in a suite on Sunday's show, ended up "on the big stage" to close the broadcast. Hold up, hater!

A source connected to the awards show tells TMZ that Kanye was offered the main stage, but opted for the suite, claiming he wanted to "feel the excitement and energy" of a smaller venue, rather than people just sitting there at tables. In addition, Kanye's "Stronger" performance was pre-taped Friday night -- to give it a "night" look -- as the actual show went live Sunday night at 6:00 PM, while there was still daylight in Vegas. Our sources say Kanye "loved" his act and expressed that to the MTV execs who were all there. We ain't sayin' he's a golddigger...

For their part, MTV says it "has a long and collaborative relationship with Kanye and we hope and look forward to continuing that meaningful relationship."

I was so proud of Chris, I was beaming from ear to ear like the boy was my own son! . He really gave a wonderful performance and it was his first VMA performance too!

I'm glad to see Alicia back in the game, I loved even more of her rendition of the greatest George Michael song ever recorded, 'Freedom '90'.
