Does Norton seem like a BSer or like a truthful man? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was wondering what some of you think of Norton.

Through out watching the Classic 39 and Lost Episodes, I noticed that Norton tells some very "interesting" stories.

For example in "Something Fishy", Norton claims that he plays ping pong in the sewer because it's the only game they can play in the sewer with a ball that can float. I found this story interesting, because if the sewers are anything like they show on Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe, I think it would be hard to play anything in the sewer, especially since some you can only fit on person at a time really in them.

Also in "Suspense", Norton said, he knew a couple that was married, after they got in to the routine they didn't like each other, and as time went on, they couldn't stand each other, then when asked by Ralph how long they were married, he said 4 days.

And overall the way Norton talks about the sewer, as if the men play games and have the time of their lives in the sewer.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about Norton? I think they meant to add funniness to Carney's character, but I know some people who would probably call Norton a BSer, does anyone else feel this way?

I think it was just Norton's way of looking at the world. He was a "simple" man who joked his way thru life. I don't think any more can be read into that, it all simply added up to comedy.

Comments about playing ping pong, having parties or surfing in the sewer were just funny, meaningless lines to make people laugh. I don't know how anyone could call him a bull****t*r since it's just a bunch of comedy and comedy always puts a twist on real life situations. I mean if he told true to life stories of the sewer I doubt anyone would have found it funny.

I agree that it was just silly comedy. You can't take everything literally. I think that Ralph and Alice were easily related to by people of that era. As far as Norton, I don't think there were many sewer workers like him at that time. He was simply a Full Grown NUT! he he he
His character was exaggerated by the writers on purpose. He was in no way a bser. He just had a unique sense of humor and a very good one at that. If he didn’t, he probably couldn’t hang out with a loud mouth like Ralph. They made each other complete and shared a brotherly type of love. As for YOU Redpenguin: Good observation, but

Yeah, I just figured that it was mainly comedy.

I'm a logical thinker, so what's funny is, most people that I see most of the time, appear to be illogical.

That's why I like Norton. He reminds me of people that I see every day.

I think that too many of the people that I see everyday have had too much rum candy (Alice and the Blonde).

I myself Like to picture Norton in the sewer playing ping pong.. as his sandwich floats down to schnecdety LOL.. I think he really did.. maybe new york just has larger sewers.. Its like anything else.. suspend disbelief have fun with it..
