Default Lisa objected to "The First Time" but...

...she decided to take part in "Best Sister"?!!! That episode is just jaw dropping. I'm not a religious person, but some of things that they had Lisa say even made me irk.

Plus Jo punching Blair and later saying that "God wanted me to do it." Whoa.

Is this one of Nick's banned episodes? I don't remember seeing it before YouTube.

idk I know I have that ep on VHS, which means I got it from Hallmark. But that wasnt the first time I'd seen it and the only other channel I ever saw it on was Nick, and marathon on TVLand so it was one of those where I saw it first. But I think it was Nick.

Seriously now, how can a thread have 106 views yet only 1 reply?

Anyone care to share their POV? Well obviously not, but come on.

Was it an age factor between Best Sister and The First Time? As ateenager maybe she did not have much say in what she could object to til she became older.

I don't see why it would be a big deal that Lisa played Blair as a person who believed "God had died" in an episode that dealt with disappointment with faith. How would that be a "contradiction" of Lisa's faith to play that role? We know what happened, things worked out all right in the end, and Blair reconciled herself to trusting in God and accepting her sister's decision to become a nun.

When you really think about it, the whole show was based on "contradictions" to people's faith: Things don't even work out the way you want, even in religion, and we have to deal with things in different ways. Much of the time, even funda-gelical Christianity insist that things be one way, people should be one way, and if they aren't, well, then, so-and-so will have to face the wrath of God. That's not the way things worked on The Facts Of Life.

Here's a good question: What about when Blair went with Mrs. G and Jo to Wedgewood's to see half-naked guys dance and strip for them? What was a nice girl like Lisa doing in a place like that?? Was THAT a contradiction of her faith?

they also went to wedgewoods, a male strip joint, blair jo and mrs. g... so the blair character definately has done some *woah* things, i think that by the time the first time rolled around, she was just really into her faith (i think she was dating her husband at that time as well, who was either still studying to be a pastor or was just starting to practice) and was realizing that her character was watched by many girls. I sitll think she could have portrayed a common sense in the episode pushing for sex after marriage, using reasons maybe not given to us by God, but out of pure logicalness, becuase it is something special that you can only experience for the first time once, and the possibility of disease and pregnancy as well... anyways, i still think she could have been in the episode and given her view, but unfortunately she did not

I honestly think Lisa should've been a sport and done the episode while expressing her belief. I mean, the episode wasn't necessarily pro-sex before marriage but offered both sides of the coin, and while it may not be a "Fact of Life" to Lisa, it is something that happens like it or not. Tootie and Beverly Ann both said that they don't agree with it before marriage and that it's best to wait. Lisa could've appeared in the episode and added her two cents.

I can understand where she was coming from totally. In all fairness, you can't compare gambling or voyerism to something that is extremely sacred and purposed under a marital covenant. I respect her opinion. Maybe she did not want to be associated with the Blair character in that way.

I believe that she could have done it simply because the episode was in good taste. Now if she had done it in the form of "Melrose Place" or something extremely slutty, then I could understand her turning it down. If it were me, I would have done it as long as the script was in good taste. I do think that she could have at least appeared in the episode. However, I do applaud her for her stance.
