Jaime Pressly Slams 'Ugly Betty' Over Plastic Surgery Message - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Actress Jaime Pressly has blasted hit TV sitcom Ugly Betty because she fears the show sends out the wrong message about plastic surgery.

The new mom, whose show My Name Is Earl goes up against Ugly Betty on Thursday nights, insists Salma Hayek's sitcom is full of confusing double standards about fashion and appearance.

Pressly explains, "They're purposefully big-upping the ugly fat girl to make everybody feel great, but it also glamorizes the fact that people are getting plastic surgery because they can. It's really bizarre."

And, even though Ugly Betty is far more popular than Pressly's rival show, the pretty blonde actress admits she turned off months ago: "It bores the hell out of me."

i wonder if pressly would've said the same thing had ugly betty not been as successful as my name is earl.

and btw, if she found the show boring why is she mentioning it? i've watched some episodes of my name is earl and that show bores the hell out of me more than ugly betty itself.

the main point of ugly betty was not to glamorise or exaggerate the concept of beauty but that outer beauty is so artificial and that inner beauty is the heart and soul at the end of the day that matters more than anything else. also in betty, she exemplifies that whilst she lacks outer beauty she makes up for it with her brains and personality.

the way pressly has reacted, seems so PC to me

The only reason why she's making a big stink about it is because her show is up aganist 'Ugly Betty' and 'Ugly Betty' will kick 'My Name is Earl' ass in the ratings.

'Ugly Betty' is sending the total opposite message. I love America Ferrara, she's so talented.

yeah, i think that jaime is saying all this, in order to stir things up. and btw, ugly betty's cast are all stars- they are brilliant in their own way and they deserve it. and who may i ask is jaime pressly anyway? i hope ugly betty wins as this would be a way of shoving her comments down her throat

You are right, the whole cast is brilliant. I still can't get over how Vanessa Williams don't age. She looks just as good as she did 23 years ago.

The only reason I know of Jaime Pressly is because of that 'Not Another Teen Movie' from five years ago.

BTW: Jaime is kind of a bitch, she's sometimes run the L.A and Vegas club circuit and acts like she hot stuff. That's all i'm going to say about that.

that film was so crap but also stupid as well. and as for jaime, i think that woman is stupid. that whole thing with ugly betty and her saying it sends out the wrong message in regards to plastic surgery is kinda pathetic. it's just a tv show for god's sake. she must be naive and stupid if she assumes that we have to take everything that happens in that show for granted in real life

i watch earl every week and ive only seen bits and pieces of ugly betty but even i think jamie is a jerk who thinks she is better than everyone else ugly bettty is full of positave messages for people and if jamie cant see that than it just seemes to validate what i always thought about jamie being very self centered and shallow i like earl because of jason lee and ethan suppile but i wouldnt care if jamie ever left the show she has always been my least fave cast member

does anyone know whether she is outspoken as a person in real life, or is she just one of those people who likes to stir up trouble when she feels like it?

This show doesn't send out a bad message like she's saying. It seems to send out a good message. Betty is a good person and she's not letting anything change who she is. She's in the fashion world where, yea, people have plastic sergery and are concerned with outward appearance. But she shows that it's not all about outward appearance, it's about what's on the inside..who you really are as a person..that matters most. Even though she's working in the "fashion world" she is just trying to be a honest, decent person and not be like everyone else. She shows that you don't have to be like everyone else to be successful and you don't have to fit in with everyone, doing what they do and such...you can be who you are and be ok with that..not having to try and be like everyone else.
I think Jaime just said what she did to make Ugly Betty look bad sense her show is up against it, which is a tacky and stupid thing to do in my openion.
