(This is a new darryl story. I know I have a lot of "Darryl" stories, but this one just HAD to be writtien. Don't worry. It is short, unlike my other "Darryl" stories.
Part 1 Rodney Kelly and I were studying Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. We were studying in my dorm, and Dave had gone to Milton’s dorm for a while. I don’t know why, but we were really getting into the story. All of a sudden, Rodney and I were really close. So close we were only about two inches from each other. We got even closer and began kissing. We kissed for two minutes, and then I awkwardly backed up. The weird thing was, that was the best kiss of my life. Could I be gay? I wondered. I always thought I was straight. Rodney stammered and said, “I guess we were just trying to act out Romeo and Juliet, huh?” I could tell he was fumbling for an excuse. I laughed nervously. “I think that’s enough studying for one night, “I said, awkwardly. Rodney looked shy and said, “I still want to study though.” He smiled even more shyly. “Okay, but just studying, “I told him sternly. He agreed, and we studied again, this time far away from each other. We finished studying a while later and Rodney picked up his things and got ready to leave. “Thanks for a great night,” he said, with a wink and smiling seductively. “You’re welcome and good-bye, “I told him. I waved him good-bye. He winked at me again and left. I myself got ready for bed. I kept thinking about Rodney. He was such a gentle kisser and his lips were so soft. What a good kisser, I thought. Hey, what a minute! What am I thinking? We just got caught up in the book, right? I’m not gay, I tried to reassure myself. I went to bed, and dreamed about Rodney. In my dream, Rodney and I were on a tropical paradise in Hawaii and we were kissing passionately. We broke the kiss and Rodney said, “That kiss we shared yesterday wasn’t just a result of the book. I really wanted to kiss you.” “I did too.” I told him back. Then I woke up. Did I LIKE Rodney? I didn’t know. The next day at school, I saw Rodney in my English class. Rodney and I looked nervously at each other, and then quickly looked away. We were obviously both thinking about last night. What would we do? The class seemed to drag on forever. After English class, Rodney stopped me and said, “What do we do now? How do we act around each other in public? You know, after last night?” “Rodney, do you LIKE me in that way?” I asked him, looking at him searchingly. (No one heard what we were talking about. Rodney shyly looked at me, and then at the floor. I think that meant yes. Rodney soon spoke. “Yes,” he admitted. I do like you that way.” I took a deep breath and had to admit to myself that I liked Rodney too. “Yes, Rodney, I like you too that way,” I admitted softly. Rodney gave me a big smile. “Thanks!” He exclaimed happily. “I don’t feel like a fool!” He declared even more happily. At lunch, Rodney and I sat at different tables. We didn’t want to be seen sitting next to each other. But we managed to give each other a quick, secretive smile when our eyes met. No one saw this. After school, I went to Rodney’s dorm. “Hey, baby, he said to me happily. “Come on in,” he said with a big smile. I did. “So, what brings you here?” Rodney asked. “I wanna talk about us,” I said. “What do you think we should do so no one suspects we like each other?” “Maybe we should be at “fake odds” with each other, Rodney suggested. “We could pretend to “hate” each other,” I said, adding to his idea. “Yes! They’ll think we can’t stand each other! It’s perfect!” Rodney said excitedly. Rodney said, “Last night was the best kiss of my life.” He looked at me thoroughly. “I feel the same way,” I admitted. The next thing I knew, Rodney and I were on his bed, kissing wildly. We were both panting. We rolled around his bed, still kissing, and almost fell off the bed and onto the floor. But, we didn’t. We both got off the bed and fixed our clothes, and I told him bye and he said bye too and I left. I went back to my dorm. |

Dave was there, looking at me intently. “Hi, Darryl,” he said.
I blushed. “Hi, Dave,” I said back. “So, it was a long walk from the school to here, huh?” Dave said, wryly. I giggled nervously. “You don’t have to tell me,” Dave said, looking at me hard. I did some homework, and Dave still looked at me. “You can tell me anything, Darryl,” he said. I blushed again. “I thought you told me I didn’t have to tell you,” I replied. Dave said,” You know, you’re right. I did say that.” He put up his hand. Dave stopped asking me questions. The rest of the day went by smoothly. The next day, at lunch, Rodney and I stared at each other, and then rolled our eyes. We were pretending to “hate” each other. I went up to Rodney and said, “Don’t talk to me. I don’t want to hear your voice.” Rodney fake got angry and said, “I’ll talk to you anytime I want, you scumbag!” “You’re the scumbag!” I yelled back. “It takes one to know one,” Rodney yelled back “You get on my nerves!” I yelled. “I can’t stand you either!” Rodney yelled back to me. To Milton, I screamed, “I’ve got to get away from him!” I fake angrily began stomping away from Rodney. Rodney yelled, “Good riddance!” Other students said, “Wow! They hate each other.” After school again, I went to Rodney’s again. We chatted about how we pulled off the fake hate. I spent 15 minutes at his dorm. When I went back to the dorm, Dave said, “I’m not going to ask you anything.” I could tell he wanted to know what was going on with me. Dave and I went through our regular routine. The next day at lunch, Rodney and I just gave each other fake stony, cold stares. Then we plain “fake” ignored each other. The students really thought we were enemies. After school, I went to Rodney’s dorm again. He and I spent 30 minutes together. When I went back to the dorm, Dave stared at me really intensely. “Who is he? Who’s your boyfriend?” Dave asked me softly but point-blank. “Huh?” I asked him, pretending I didn’t hear him. “You heard me,” he said softly. “Yes, I did,” I admitted. “Dave said, “So?” I could tell he wanted me to open up. “I don’t have a boyfriend,” I lied. Dave looked at me even more intensely. “You can’t hide gay things from me. Remember, I’m gay, and my “gay” radar is going off around you.” I blushed again. “So tell me, who is he?’ I took a deep breath. “Rodney Kelly,” I said. Dave looked at me in surprise. “Rodney Kelly is your boyfriend?” He sounded pleasantly surprised. “He’s a real sweet guy.” “Please don’t tell anyone,” I begged. “That rules been changed,” Dave told me. “Dean Riley said that shunning gays falls under the category of discrimination. It’s been abolished.” He gave me a big smile. “So, Rodney and I don’t have to hide our relationship anymore? I asked in happy surprise. “We can be “out?” “Yes, Dave said. “Bye,” I said. I was going back to Rodney’s. “You’re going to Rodney’s, huh?” Dave asked me with a knowing smile. “Yes, “I said. Dave said, “Goodbye. I went to Rodney’s dorm. “Hey, back already?” Rodney asked me with a surprised but pleased smile. “Yes, I said, coming in. I wanted to tell Rodney the good news. “Guess what Rodney?” “What?” He asked/answered. “We don’t have to date in secret anymore! That gay shunning thing is over! We can finally tell people we’re a couple!” I said excitedly. Rodney smiled. “I’m so happy to hear that!” He leaned forward and gave me a long kiss on the mouth. When we broke apart, Rodney asked me if I wanted to watch a movie with him. (Surprisingly, we both didn’t have any homework to do today). I said, “Sure.” We watched The Terminal together. It’s a Tom Hanks movie and it’s about a man who ends up living in an airport. It’s really funny. And long. 128 minutes. After the movie, I got up to leave. Rodney stopped me. “I really enjoyed spending time with you.” He looked at me earnestly. “I did too,” I told him. Rodney gave me a big smile. I quickly kissed him goodbye on the lips, and I left. I went back to the dorm. Dave was watching T.V. when I came in. “Hey again, Darryl,” he said when he saw me. “Hey, Dave, “I said back. “You know, I knew you were gay by the way you were acting, “Dave said. “I acted the same way when I was first dating Max. I was acting really nervous whenever we were in school together, worried that someone would find out we were dating. Max is one of the most wonderful guys I know. I love him, you know?” Dave said giddily. “Yeah, I can see it in your eyes whenever you talk about him,” I said. “But, you didn’t have to lie to me about Rodney,” Dave said all of a sudden. “Oh, the guy who told me, “Max is just a really sweet guy. We don’t like each other that way,” is talking to me about lying?” I shot back. “That was different. I was and still am dating the dorm parent. And that, that was before the rule was changed,” Dave defended himself. I agreed to disagree. |

I decided to call mom and tell her about Rodney. I called her.
Mom picked up on the third ring. “Hello Darryl,” she said, sounding happy to speak to me, but a little tired. “Hi, mom,” I said to her nervously. I began to fiddle with the cell phone antenna. “What’s going on, Darryl?” She asked a little warily. “Mom, how do you feel about gays?” I asked her. “Gays deserve the right to be happy, just like everyone else. If they love somebody that happens to be of their own sex, that’s fine,” Mom answered. “Why do you ask?” I took a deep breath. “Mom, I’m gay,” I said, letting the breath out. Mom gave me a forced laugh. “That’s a good joke, Darryl. Now, don’t tell that joke to anyone else in our family.” I knew deep down she knew I wasn’t joking. “Mom, it’s not a joke,” I told her. “I know,” she admitted. She sounded as if she were crying. “Mom, don’t cry,” I told her soothingly. “Maybe I shouldn’t have let you go to an all-boys school,” Mom said. She was crying uncontrollably. I couldn’t stand her crying anymore. “Mom, I WAS joking,” I said unconvincingly. “Ha ha gotcha!” I said, still unconvincingly. She continued sobbing. “No you weren’t joking Darryl. You weren’t just playing.” “Mom, I was just joking,” I said, even more unconvincingly. “No, Darryl. You wouldn’t play a joke like that on me. You really are gay.” She burst into more tears. “Mom, it’s not that bad,” I said. “I can’t believe my son is a homosexual. I can’t believe he’s a queer,” Mom said under her breath. “Mom, that hurt,” I told her. “I said that aloud?” Mom said, sounding embarrassed. “If that’s how you really feel,” goodbye,” I told her. I hung up the phone, put the phone on silent and turned it over. I had never intentionally hung up on my mom in my whole life. I was really, really, hurt by her words. I went to sleep. When I woke up, I looked at my cell phone, I saw that I had a missed call. Then I saw I had a text message. I decided to look at my message. It said, “Mom. I pressed, “OK,” and I saw the message, “Darryl, call me. I’m sorry. Love mom.” Then I listened to my missed call. The missed call was, “Darryl, I shouldn’t have reacted that way when you told me you were gay. I love you. Please call me.” I sighed and called mom. “Hi, mom,” I said to her. “Darryl, hi. I’m sorry for what I said. I love you and accept you the way you are,” Mom said, understanding. “I love you, too,” I told her happily. “So, who is he?” She asked me, sounding intrigued. “Who said I had a boyfriend?” I replied. “I know you wouldn’t have called me with that news if you didn’t have a boyfriend or a special crush,” she answered. “I took a deep breath. “It’s a guy named Rodney,” I answered her. “Is he your boyfriend or a crush?” She asked. “He’s my boyfriend, “I told her. “How’d you guys start dating?” She asked me. “We were studying Romeo and Juliet and we just ended up kissing,” I told her. “Must have been one hell of a kiss,” she said wryly. “It didn’t really happen out of nowhere,” I confessed. “We ended up coming closer and closer to each other before we kissed. The kiss was actually the best kiss of my life,” I confessed. “Are you happy with Rodney?” She asked. “Yes, very happy,” I told her. “We like each other a lot,” I said, dreamily. “Then I’m happy for you too,” She said. We chatted for a few minutes, and then both hung up. |

Dave had been sleeping too, but I realized he was now fully awake.
“It’s a good thing that you can talk to your mom about Rodney,” he said, looking resentful. “I still haven’t told my parents about Max. “Dave looked reluctant. “You haven’t told your parents about Max?” I asked him, incredulous. “But it’s been over two years, “I pointed out. Dave shook his head, reluctant. “My parents aren’t as open as your mom is,” Dave said, sadly and lamenting. “But, Parents Day is coming up soon. I’m nervous.” “Parents Day is coming up?” I said, excited. “Mom can see me?” I smiled from ear to ear. “Yeah, it’s coming up on October 25th,” Dave said, not sounding happy about it. “You should tell your parents about Max,” I told him softly. “Yeah, right after I tell them about my crack addiction,” he snorted. (Hey, I just made a pun). Crack, snort, get it? “You know, it’s better to come out of the closet and tell your family what’s going on,” I told him softly. Dave looked at me with a sneer. “Just like you told your mom that you stole money, huh?” “Look who’s talking about “stealing money”!” I shot back. “You stole money to snort crack!” “At least I had an excuse to steal money,” Dave shot back. What was your excuse? Dave was right. I didn’t have an excuse to steal money. “I did it for fun,” I told Dave softly. Dave’s face suddenly changed and he looked defeated. “Look,” he said with a sigh,” I don’t want to fight anymore. Truce?” He offered, putting his hand out for a handshake. I walked over to him. “Truce,” I said, taking his hand and shaking it. Dave smiled at me. “I am sorry for the fight,” he said. “Me too,” I said. We stopped shaking hands. Dave said, “I’m still nervous about Parents Day.” “Don’t worry, it will be fine,” I said. Dave sighed. The week flew by fast, and Parents Day came up. Recap of last week” Rodney and I began dating exclusively, and we had come “out”, without fear of being shunned. Mom had bought a round-trip plane ticket for herself to come visit me. October 25th came up sooner than I thought. When it did, I was very excited. I had cleaned our dorm(No sense in letting mom see a pigsty), and went outside with the other students to meet mom. Mom came to the school about five more minutes later, and we ran to each other. “Mom!” I said happily. “Darryl!” She said happily. We hugged each other. Tons of other parents were there too. They all chatted with their sons. Dave’s parents were chatting with him. Dave looked immensely nervous. I knew what he was thinking about. Max. Max came up a few minutes later. He smiled at Mrs. And Mr. Winston, and greeted them. They greeted him back. Max put his arm around Dave’s shoulder and gave him a very telling kiss on the cheek. Dave immediately stiffened and looked at the ground. “Dave, what’s going on?” Mrs. Winston asked. “Yeah, what’s the meaning of this?” Mr. Winston asked. Dave took a deep breath and announced, “Mom, Dad, I’m gay. This is my boyfriend, Max Cartwright.” “Why didn’t you tell us?” Mrs. Winston burst into tears. Does this reaction remind you of anyone? “I was afraid you’d disown me,” Dave said shyly. “No, we love you. You’re our son,” Mrs. Winston said, through tears. Mr. Winston asked, “How long have you two been dating?” “Over two years,” Dave said. “Two years,” Mrs. Winston said, crying harder. Max spoke up. “It really wasn’t Dave’s fault that he didn’t say anything. There was shunning of gays on this campus until just a little while ago. Gays on this campus had to hide their relationships with each other.” “But, he could have told US,” Mrs. Winston emphasized. Even Max reluctantly agreed she had a point. Dave said, “Mom, dad, I’m sorry for not telling you sooner.” Mrs. And Mr. Winston wrapped their arms around Dave, and told them they accepted him. Then they both shook Max’s hand. Mom said, “I’d like to see your dorm. Wanna invite me in?” I said, “Sure,” and the Winstons followed suit. Mom asked me which bed was mine, and I gestured to the one on the right. Mom looked at me impressed. “You really know how to keep a dorm clean,” she said proudly. “Thanks, mom.” Dave’s bed was neat too (I had made it neat for him. He had left it unmade today.) I just thought I’d do him a favor. “Your bed is nice, too, Dave, “Mrs. Winston said happily. Dave blushed. “Thanks.” He looked at me for a split second, gratefully. I gave mom a tour of the dorm, and mom was impressed by how clean it was. Then she asked me, “How about introducing me to Rodney?” |

I blushed. I decided to introduce mom to Rodney. Rodney was down in the dining hall, talking to his parents. Rodney looked at mom and me in surprise.
“Hi, Darryl. Hi, Mrs. Johnson,” Rodney said, looking at us nervously. “This is Rodney,” I told Mom. And those are his parents,” I continued. Hi, Rodney, mom said back to Rodney. “We’re Mrs. And Mr. Kelly,” Mrs. Kelly introduced herself and Rodney’s dad. I’m Mrs. Johnson,” Mom said amicably. Rodney introduced me to his parents. ‘This is Darryl Johnson, my friend,” Rodney told them. “Friend?” I repeated in my mind. Did he call me his “friend”? I was indignant. What about our relationship? “Yes, we’re JUST friends,” I told them with special emphasis. Mrs. And Mr. Kelly said, “It’s nice to meet you, Darryl.” And to mom, they said, “and it’s nice to meet you,” Mrs. Johnson.” “It’s nice to meet you too,” she said back. “And it’s nice to meet you, Rodney. It’s nice to meet Darryl’s boyfriend,” Mom blurted out. Rodney looked mortified for about 5 seconds. Then he burst into forced, nervous, giddy laughter. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly looked puzzled. “Rodney, anything you want to tell us?” Mrs. Kelly asked, still looking puzzled. Rodney was still fake laughing. “No, Mrs. Johnson was just playing. It was a joke she and Darryl came up with.” I couldn’t believe mom had blurted that out. But I was kind of happy she had. Maybe Rodney would tell them the truth. “Friend” indeed! “Mom, dad, I need to talk to Darryl about a homework assignment we have due soon,” Rodney said. “Okay,” they both said. Rodney pulled me by the arm and led me away from his parents. Mom followed us. “Darryl, please don’t tell about us,” he said in a low, confidential, pleading tone. “They don’t know that I’m gay.” “I was kind of hurt when you called me your “friend,” I admitted. “You and I both know we’re more than “friends.” We’re boyfriends!” “I know,” Rodney admitted. Mom said, “I’m sorry for blurting your secret.” She looked regretful. “Apology accepted,” Mrs. Johnson,” Rodney said softly. We were done talking, and we went back to the Kellys. “So, you done talking about the homework assignment?” Mrs. Kelly asked. “Yes, “Rodney said. “Good,” she answered. “Now, Rodney, remember Elisha? The girl from down the street?” She asked. “Yes,” Rodney replied. “We’re thinking about setting you two up on a date. You two would make a good couple.” Rodney looked uncomfortable. Mr. Kelly chimed in, “She’s really gotten beautiful. And sweeter, smarter, and even more kind. We could hook you two up over the summer.” Rodney stammered uncomfortably. “Mom, dad, I’m not interested in Elisha anymore.” “But why not?” Mrs. and Mr. Kelly asked in unison, sounding confused. “I’m not interested in ANY girl anymore,” he answered. He walked over to me, grabbed my hand, and said, “This is who I’m interested in. This is Darryl. My boyfriend,” Rodney confessed. Mrs. and Mr. Kelly’s mouths dropped open in shock. Rodney looked as if a huge weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. He looked relieved. “But how are you gay?” Mr. Kelly asked. “You were straight before we sent you to this school. Maybe we should send you back to co-ed school,” Mrs. Kelly lamented. “That should fix you back into being straight.” Rodney said, “This could have happened at my old school, too. There were guys there too.” “No, no, no,” Mrs. Kelly lamented, crying softly. Mr. Kelly looked ashamed. Rodney looked defiant, but happy. “Mom, dad, I’m happy with Darryl.” He squeezed my hand gently. “We’re a couple, in love with each other. “What about all those girls?” Mrs. Kelly asked, grabbing at straws. “Those were puppy dog crushes,” Rodney announced. “This one here is real.” He gently kissed me on my lips. Mrs. Kelly looked as if she wanted to die. “Rodney, please stop,” she begged. Mr. Kelly agreed. “I’m tired of hiding who I am in front of you guys. I’m trying to get out of the closet, but you are trying to close that closet door on me. You’re trying to keep me in it, when I desperately want to get out. This is who I am. Take it or leave it,” Rodney said defiantly. “I’ll leave it,” Mrs. Kelly said coldly. Rodney’s whole face fell. He looked really sad. Mr. Kelly said, “You are a disgrace to the Kelly name. I don’t even want to call you my son.” With that, they both left. Rodney sat on a table and looked distraught. “I’ve just been disowned,” Rodney said, sounding ready to burst into tears. “Come on, they’re probably just in shock,” I told him soothingly. Mom said, “Rodney, when Darryl told me he was gay, I called him a bad name.” “What name was it?” Rodney asked, looking up. “It was “queer”, Mom repeated. Rodney said, “Ooh, that is really bad,” he winced. Mom said, “Yes, but after a while, OI came to my senses and realized, “Yes, he’s gay, but yes, he’s my son and I love him, no matter who he likes.” I always did and always will.” She smiled at me. To Rodney, she said. “Your parents love you. They are just in shock right now. They’ll come to their senses too.” Rodney thanked her, and for about five minutes, Rodney, mom, and I chatted about everything, except Rodney’s parents. The Kellys came back. Mrs. Kelly said, “Rodney, we shouldn’t have reacted that way when you told us that you were gay. We’re both sorry.” Mr. Kelly looked ashamed of himself. “Can you forgive us for how we acted?” Rodney looked really happy. “Of course I forgive you two. All three Kellys hugged. Rodney looked immensely happy. After hugging, Mrs. Kelly gently stroked Rodney’s cheek and gave him a watery look of tenderness. “I love you, Rodney,” she said softly. “Mom, I love you too,” he said, tenderly. Mr. Kelly said, “I love you, too, son,” he said, looking tender too. “I love you too, Rodney answered. Rodney gave me a big smile. For the rest of Parents day, it ran smoothly. Parents got to chat with their sons’ professors. (All of my professors told mom that I was a joy to have in class). My Math professor proudly told Mom I was getting all B’s. Mom was proud of me and said, “I remember not too long ago you had straight D’s in Math. Now you have straight B’s in Math.” She hugged me. I blushed. I felt like a little kid whose mom had just hung his finger painting picture on the refrigerator. It was a good feeling. Soon, Parents Day was over. It seemed to end too soon. The next Parents Day would be December 10th. Mom told me she wouldn’t miss it for the world. She gave me a kiss and left. I went back to my dorm and studied. At 10:05, I was done studying and went to sleep. The next day, Dave and I got ready for school. In History class, Rodney smiled at me. I smiled back. Rodney sat next to me, and we held hands. I was so glad we didn’t have to hide our relationship from the school. I looked into Rodney’s eyes. They were full of tenderness. I loved the way Rodney looked at me. It made me feel warm and loved inside. We did our assignments, and class was over. After that class, Rodney pulled me aside and said, “I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. You’re special to me. I want to give you something I’ve never given anyone before.” “What is it?” I asked. “This.” He reached into his back pocket and took out a gold ring. “My mom gave me this when I was 14. She told me to give it to someone really special to me. “He put it on my finger. “I decided to give it to you.” He gave me a big smile. “It’s beautiful,” I said happily. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome,” he said. I never took that ring off. It was a symbol of love. On Wednesday, Rodney and I went to a dance with our sister school. The girls could really dance! When it came time for the slow dance, Rodney and I slow danced in each other’s arms. I felt so comfortable in his arms. After the dance, Rodney took my hand and led me to Student Life (Outside). We sat on a bench. Rodney and I just sat there for about 10 minutes, just enjoying each other’s company. I had found true happiness with Rodney,” I mused silently. I smiled at his adoring face. I knew Rodney felt the same way. We kissed for two minutes. When we broke apart, I got up to leave. “Are you going back to the dorm?” He asked. “Yes, “I answered. “I’ll walk you home,” he offered. “You live in the same hall as me, but sure,” I said, laughing. Rodney put his arm around my waist and just let it hang loosely while we walked. I was so comfortable and it felt right. When Rodney dropped me off, he looked happily at the ring on my finger. I could tell he was happy that I still had the ring and was wearing it. Rodney and I kissed a long goodnight kiss. I went in, and told Dave goodnight. "Goodnight, Darryl," he said, a little tired. I got ready for bed. |

Who thinks my story sucks? I ran my story through a grade level checker, and the result said that this story's grade level is 2! My story is only fit to be read to 7 year olds!

I was just about to go to sleep, when my cellphone rang. It was mom.
“Hi, Darryl,’ mom said. “What’s up?” I asked her. “Darryl, maybe you should tell your dad about Rodney,” mom said. “Tell dad about Rodney? No way mom,” I told her. “He doesn’t need to know that. He’s not even in my life much.” “Still, it would be nice for you to tell him.” “Okay,” I said reluctantly with a sigh. “I’ll call him.” “Good,” she told me happily. We chatted for a few more minutes, then hung up. I called dad’s cellphone. “Hello, dad?” I said when he answered. “Darryl? I’m glad to hear from you son,” he said, sounding pleased. “How’s it going?” “Dad, I have something to tell you,” I told him slowly. “What is it, son?” He asked. “I’m gay,” I told him flat out. Dad sounded as if he were choking in shock. “It’s my fault. I should have helped raise you myself. You would have been straight. I would have taught you how to be a real man.” “What do you mean “a real man”?” I asked him hotly. “A real man. You know, not some lilly lilly fairy,” he answered me. “Oh, you think I’m a “fairy”, do you?” I retorted hotly. “You’re a “fairy” if you like other guys,” dad said, sounding disgusted. “Dad, stop it,” I said, upset. “Where’d you get this “gayness” from, anyway?” Dad asked, still disgusted. “I’m not gay. Your mother’s not a lesbian.” “I don’t know where I got it from, but I know that I’m happy with Rodney. My boyfriend.” “Yeah, you’re happy being a lilly fairy,” dad said, sounding as if he were sneering. “Go run right into a wall,” I told him with hurt coldness. I hung up the phone. Most of the time, I think of my father as a sperm donor, not as “dad.” You probably see why I call him “sperm donor.” He provided the sperm, but almost nothing more than child support. I can’t wait until I’m 18 so he can stop with the child support. Mike Johnson! Ha! The only thing my dad and I have in common are out last names, which might as well have been Mom’s last name. You see, my dad’s birth name is Mike Johnson. My mom’s birth name is Sandra Johnson. (Don’t worry, they took a blood test to see if they weren’t related. They weren’t). So, technically, they are Ms. Johnson and Mr. Johnson. Even though they never married, they are the Johnsons, as if they HAD gotten married. But, back to the subject. Dad thought I was a “fairy.” Well, the hell with him. He’s just a sperm donor. At least that’s what I thought in my mind. In my heart, I was very hurt by his words. I’m a very sensitive person, even though I act tough on the outside. I went to sleep. When I awoke, I saw I had a missed call from dad. I listened to the message. “Darryl,” I shouldn’t have said what I said to you yesterday. I was wrong. Call me and we can talk this out.” I called dad. “Hi, Mike,” I told him when he answered. Notice how I called him by his first name. That should tell you something. “Hey, son,” he said back to me. “Listen, let’s talk about you being gay. I’m NOT going to disown you. You deserve to be happy. I’m sorry for what I said to you yesterday.” “Apology accepted,” I told him. “I accept you the way you are,” dad said. “Thanks, DAD,” I told him with emphasis. “You’re welcome, son,” Dad said back. We chatted for a few more minutes. Then we hung up. |

Part 7
Thanksgiving Break came up soon, and I was allowed to fly home. Mom was excited to see me, and she took me up and down North Miami in her car. I looked at all of North Miami with awe. I had missed so much of it while at Johnson. I especially looked at 125th Street in awe. That street is the quintessential essence of North Miami. When you’re on 125th Street, you know you’re in North Miami. The name of that street is North Miami Boulevard. Mom took me to a lot of stores, and we had fun. Mom and I went back home and mom said that I could call Sean, Julian, and Mario, over for dinner. I did. They came over in 5 minutes. They were HUNGRY. Mom and I set the table, but mom said dinner wasn’t quite ready yet. She said it would be ready in 10 minutes. My friends and I went into my room. They all sat on my bed. I decided to tell them the truth. I stepped into my closet. They looked at me curiously. I got out, and then went back in. I did this five more times. You guys know what I was trying to convey with the “closet”. “Darryl, what are you doing?” Mario asked me finally. “Why are you going in and out of your closet?” Sean asked me. Julian just looked stumped. He bit his lower lip in concentration. I couldn’t believe my friends were this slow. “The closet is a metaphor,” I told them. They still looked baffled. “Okay, I’m Gary Allen Young,” I told them, trying to get them to understand. “What? Who’s Gary Allen Young?” Julian asked me, baffled. “I’m Gary Allen Young!” I said with more emphasis. They were still confused. I began rhyming words. “Bay, cay, day, hay, jay, lay, may, nay, pay, ray, say, way,” I told them. I was hoping they would find the word that was missing. They didn’t. I said, “I am the color “gray,” with something missing,,” I told them, even more desperate. They still didn’t get it. I am Gary Allen Young, I love the color gray, and love words that end with ‘ay.” I did the closet thing again. “What the hell is going on?” Sean demanded. I sighed. “You guys are so not getting this!” I was frustrated. Put the first initials in Gary Allen Young together, think of a word that rhymes with “ay,” take away one letter from “gray,” and look at this closet!” I yelled. They concentrated for a few more seconds. Mario suddenly beamed. “You’re gay!” He said, triumphantly. Then he realized what he just said. “Are you? For real?” “Yes,” I admitted. “I’m gay. “ I figured I could come out to my best friends. Sean and Julian both asked, “You’re gay for real?” They looked a little shocked. Mario did too. “Yes, I am. For real,” I assured. “My friends immediately said that they accepted me. They weren’t going to shun me. And they didn’t. They just all wanted to make sure I wasn’t gay with any of them. I assured them I wasn’t. I told them about Rodney and showed them his ring. They all sighed a sigh of relief. They didn’t want me to “like” any of them that way because that would be awkward and put tension. We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner and soon, break was over and I went back to Johnson. Rodney and I were thrilled to see each other again after a few days of not seeing each other. We ran into each other’s arms and hugged for a long time. You would think we hadn’t seen each other in months, instead of just days. Rodney and I went to my dorm and just chatted about Thanksgiving Break. We had fun reminiscing. After that, Rodney went to his dorm. |

Thsi is the final part of the story. I told you it would be a short story)
I finished up my homework. Later, I went to Rodney’s dorm. The door was unlocked, so I came right in. Rodney quickly jumped when he saw me. He had been looking at some magazine and turned it over. He gave me a nervous smile. “Darryl!” He exclaimed. “I didn’t know you were coming.” He laughed nervously. I could see sweat forming on his skin. “What’s the magazine for?” I asked him, point blank. I walked over to him and put my hand on the back of the magazine to turn it over, but Rodney said, “No!” Then he snatched the magazine away. He ran out of the dorm with it and ran towards the library. I was in hot pursuit of Rodney. Not many people know this, but I could be a track runner if I wanted to. I don’t. I caught up with him in the library. He didn’t know I was right behind him. My sneakers are “silent” Nikes. When you run, you don’t make a sound. I hid in a secret place where I could see him, but he couldn’t see me. Then he said to himself, “I’ve gotta hide this magazine from Darryl.” He quickly got up and checked out a magazine with the same ad in the back as the magazine he had originally been looking at. He put the “real” magazine under his shirt, but right underneath the waistband of his pants. Then he began to sneak back to his dorm. I quickly ran back to his dorm and waited for him. He came in two minutes later. I knew what he was planning to do with the magazine from the library. He was going to try to fool me with that magazine, since they both had the same car ad in the back! “Hi, Rodney,” I told him softly. I gave him an evil smile. “Darryl!” He exclaimed again. “What are you doing here?” He asked me nervously. He begun to leave, but I quickly ran in front of him. “Where do you think you’re going?” I asked him evilly. He tried to move over to his left, but I quickly blocked him. Then he tried to move over to his right, but I blocked him again. This went on for about 20 more seconds, with me still blocking him. I am a FAST mover. “I’m not going anywhere, and neither are you,” I told him silkily. Rodney finally sighed and gave in. He went back to his bed. He flipped through the magazine he had no doubtedly checked out from the library. It was some boring car magazine. “So, you like car magazines, do you?” I asked, knowing about the other magazine he had. “Yes, they’re great,” he said, nonchalantly. I knew this car magazine was just a cover up. I lied next to him on his bed. “I just love your abs, Rodney,” I told him seductively. I began to inch his shirt up. He immediately stiffened. There’s no need for that right now,” he said, nervously and agitated. He pulled his shirt back down. “Why not?” I asked him. “You’re so hot,” I told him seductively. (And he is. He has gorgeous brown hair, beautiful brown eyes, and is really lean, tall, and muscular. His smile is amazing too! ). I put my hand on his shirt again. Rodney jumped up and tried to leave again, but I stopped him. I said, “This is what you’ve been hiding, isn’t it!?” I asked, exclaimed. I put my hand on his shirt and pulled it up quickly and took the magazine out of his pants. The magazine was a gay porn magazine! There were guys tongue-kissing each other and doing some interesting things to each other. Rodney looked caught red-handed. I felt insulted. “This is what you get off on?” I’m not good enough for you?” I asked him shrilly. “Please Darryl. I didn’t mean to hurt you Darryl,” Rodney said, pleadingly. “Oh no, you didn’t hurt me,” I said in a controlled voice. I forcefully grabbed Rodney and gave him a long, passionate kiss. Then I broke the kiss. “Try getting that from your “guys” in that magazine. Have fun with them,” I said, and kind of strutted out of his dorm. I may have appeared tough on the outside, but on the inside, I was hurt that he had gay porn that he was getting off on. Rodney called my cellphone. “Go call your boyfriends in that magazine,” I told him and hung up the phone. I quickly told Dave what was going on. Dave listened intently. Then he said, “It seems to me that the guys in that magazine are just fantasy guys. He has you and you have him. He chose you and wants you. You’re the one he’s dating. He isn’t dating those guys in the magazine.” Dave made a lot of sense. I thanked him. I called Rodney and Rodney told me the same Dave had. I believed Rodney. I had one term though. I told him to never let me see that magazine again or it would be going in the trash. He agreed. We loved each other way too much and were way too happy together to let that come between us. Our love was more than that. I try to forget that magazine, but I know that her looks at it when I’m not around. Just as long as I don’t see it, it’s fine by me. I still wear his ring, and it’s still beautiful. I have a feeling we’ll be together for a LONG time. The end. |

Darryl and Rodney agreed to "fake hate" each other. In real life, that wouldn't fly unless they were in a fistfight. (Then, people would really think they hated each other) In another part of this story, Darryl and Rodney scream things out like, "Ooh, I can't stand you! and "you are a scumbag!" That sounds scripted and fake........... Would you believe that they hated each other? Most people would be suspicious and wonder if they really LIKED each other, especially if they've always been kind of neutral towards each other. They would wonder if the sudden "bitterness" towards each other, was really a cover up for "attraction". If they wanted to fool the other students, they should have acted the way they usually acted towards each other. That wouldn't make anyone suspicious. |

Darryl could be a transsexual. He may want to only dress up as a women, not necessarily be gay.
Good writing Janice. Do you have a writing class in school? |
