Ok, who knew who the hell was this guy?
I certainly didn't. I was a youngster when I began watching Lucy and even as I got older I had never heard of this golfer. I know this man was obviously famous but I sure hadn't a clue who he was. Question: Why would two amateur players (Ricky and Fred) be asked to play in a tournament with a pro golfer? |

I've never heard of him outside of this episode either. According to Wikipedia (which I know isn't the most reliable source), his career declined in the 1950's, which would explain why you never heard about him later on.

I was researching him on the net when I made this thread. I read the Wikipedia source but like you say, it is unreliable, therefore, didn't want to post a link. I read some of the other sources and you are correct, he just seemed to disappear.

To find out who Jimmy Demaret was, check out this link: http://golf.about.com/od/golfers/p/jimmy_demaret.htm
There are golf tournaments that are "Pro-Am." Professional golfers are paired up with amateurs; I would assume that handicaps are involved. The bigger question is: who the hell is Ricky Ricardo? This episode was from the third season, long before Ricky was "discovered" and went to Hollywood. Why would Jimmy know who Ricky was unless he went to that dive of a nightclub to see him perform? BTW-Check out the phony backdrop on the golf course. The set crew didn't bother to iron out the creases in the scenery behind the golfers before they filmed!

![]() Thank you for making me laugh so hard I cried. ![]() Yes, who was Ricky Ricardo? Did they happen to find him playing on the course one day and just asked him "Hey you, wanna play with Jimmy D.?" ![]() This part of your comment cracked me up..."...that dive of a nightclub..." OMG ![]() And yes!!! that damn background was so damn cheesy and horrible! I too noticed the wrinkles. |
