Default Life Of Katey

Life Of Katey

Starring Jessica Rose as Katey Atkins, a typical 21-year-old college junior whom comes from a middle-classed Wisconsin family. Katey recently has made a major life decision as she transfers from UW-Milwaukee to return back to her Appleton hometown to attend a community college and return to living at home with her family. Katey's loving and supportive family consists of her contractor dad, Mark (Scott Patterson), her florist mom, Julie (Nancy Travis), and her boy-crazied younger sister, Kendall (Miley Cyrus). Mark and Julie are thrilled that their daughter has decided on attending a college that is less expensive and closer to home. Katey's initial decision to move back home was due to learning about her former high school boyfriend, James Sloane (Matt Long) being badly injured during a college football game and ended up transferring back home so he can be under care of his widowed mother, Tammy (Christine Lahti). Tammy is a neurotic, compulsive dental hygentist, who has her share of personal demons which shine through her-especially since after her beloved late husband was killed in the line of duty a few years ago (he was a police officer). After starting out at her new community college, she is befriended by the resident Queen Bee on campus--Shanna Moore (Nikki Reed), who's reputation has left something to be desired, and is quite well-known for her promiscuity, rebellious attitude, and party-girl reputation. Katey not only wants to be closer (in proximity) to her family and her roots, but her old flame, James--as she begins to fall for him all over again and wants to rekindle their former relationship.

Cast of Characters:
Jessica Rose as Katherine "Katey" Atkins
Matt Long as James Sloane
Nikki Reed as Shanna Moore
Scott Patterson as Mark Atkins
Nancy Travis as Julie Atkins
Miley Cyrus as Kendall Atkins
Christine Lahti as Tammy Sloane

Ep3: Enter The Queen:

Katey is introduced to all of Shanna's rich, spoiled, and snobby friends, and after beginning to feel she does not fit in with them, Katey decides to bail on the party-until Shanna shows up and tells off her friends and sticks up for Katey-which sparks her curiousity in Shanna. Elsewhere, Mark and Julie have a marital spat, when Julie refuses to give Mark sex until he helps her out around the house more than he does already. The spat itself and Julie's holding out is enough to bring the both of them to the edge--until they encounter a heated arguement while doing the laundry together and end up making love in the heat of the moment.

Ep4: Birthday Blues:
It's Julie's birthday. When Mark is told by Julie that she doesn't want to do anything special for her birthday and despite his daughters' fore-warnings, Mark takes his wife's words for granted and doesn't plan anything special for Julie's birthday--which ends up disappointing Julie. Meanwhile, Tammy and James have an argument over privacy, when James catchs Tammy snooping around his bedroom and Tammy comes across an opened box of condoms--which sends a frazzled Tammy into a frenzy and James into defense mode.

Ep5: Who Can? Kendall Can!:

Tammy likes Katey, but fears she will eventually break James' heart once more--which infuriates James and frustrates Katey. Elsewhere, Kendall is asked out by a senior boy, who is the wide reciever on the varsity football team. Kendall accepts his offer to go out to the movies, but comes home after to face the wrath of her parents-who originally said no dating until she was 16.

Ep7: Immaturity At Best:

Elsewhere, Shanna confides in Katey that she has slept with their married professor in hopes of boosting her grades, but when her plan backfires--Shanna (along with Katey by her side) bravely attempts to inform the professor's wife about his little affair.

Ep8: Grand Times With Grandma Rose:
Julie's successful romantic novelist and longtime widowed mother, Rose (Dixie Carter) stops by for the weekend. Katey and Kendall are thrilled to visit with Grandma Rose, as where Julie and Mark end up half-heartedly enjoying her visit especially after Rose continuously questions Julie's housekeeping and parenting methods, and insists on giving Mark at hard time about anything in general. Also, Shanna is beyond estatic when she finds out her most favorite romantic novelist just so happens to be Katey's maternal grandma, and wants nothing more than to actually get to meet Rose.

Ep9: Awkward Attempt:
After being convinced it is okay to date again after her late husband's death, Tammy makes an awful and awkward attempt in dating again, when she agrees to go on a blind date with a salesman (who ends up treating her like a client instead of his date). Katey and Shanna hangout with James, while he is at home waiting for Tammy to come home from her date. Later, James and Tammy end up having a heart to heart chat about her dating after his dad's death. Elsewhere, Julie and Mark try their best to escape from an annoyingly clingy couple (Cynthia Stevenson, Jon Cryer), who bugs the crap out of them and are intolerable by every means necessary.

Ep10: Life Matters:
Katey ends up being insulted when Kendall passes her up and ends up asking Shanna for advice about dating and boys. Kendall finds herself caught up in a real jam, when her date is only interested in one thing--making out. Kendall finds herself in Katey's doghouse, when Kendall ends up calling Shanna to help bail her out instead of Katey. But when Kendall really needs Katey's help, Katey must think twice about helping Kendall out when Shanna isn't by her cell when Kendall calls. Elsewhere, Julie and Tammy bump into each other at the grocery store and end up calling a truce (since James and Katey split after high school, the two women went from friends to nemesises).

Ep11: Let's Get Physical, Therapist:

Katey's jealousy and enviness becomes too much, causing her to spy on James and his therapist while one of their therapy sessions. James and Katey share a private heart-to-heart chat, which leads up to a passionate kiss between the two of them. Also, Shanna becomes overwhelmed with homework after being out sick with the flu for two weeks, and turns to Julie and Kendall for help.

Ep12: Some More Moores:
Shanna experiences a mixed blessing when her dad, Gary (Mark Harmon), and stepmom, Denise (Debra Messing) announce that they are expecting a child in nine months. Shanna is happy for her dad and Denise, but fears her new half-sibling will outshine her and take away her dad's attention for her eventually. Also, the Atkins family is torn when deciding where to vacation for spring break: Mark wants to go to the family cabin up north, Julie wants to go on a Caribbean cruise, Katey wants to go to Cancun, and Kendall wants to go skiing in Aspen.

Shanna and Katey manipulate Andrew (A.J. Trauth) to find out his true intentions, but is sadly mistaken when it is known that Andrew is bisexual and is interested in a threesome with Shanna, him, and James. All of them (Shanna, Katey, and James) are stunned when they find out, and Shanna ultimately breaks it off with Andrew despite her attraction to him, and James becomes uneasy with the fact of a guy wanting a threesome with him.

Ep14: Unfaithful And Teachers:
Kendall's parents are asked to have a meeting with Kendall's teacher, Ms. Laken (Frances O'Connor). After assuming Kendall did wrong, both Kendall and her parents are surprised to learn that it is a "good meeting" when Ms. Laken informs them that she wants to enter Kendall into a writing festival after grading her latest writing piece which impressed her greatly. Kendall is modest and unsure if she wants to enter or not. Julie, Mark, and Ms. Laken each wish Kendall will change her mind and enter, and she does when she learns of the first place prize ($10,000). Also, Tammy and James get a surprise visitor from her late husband's past--- his secret mistress, Ellen (Patricia Richardson). Ellen was a former secretary down at the police department, of whom he had an affair with secretly for five years up until his death. A guilt-ridden Ellen wants to confess and make amends with Tammy and James after getting up the nerve. Tammy is speechless and in denial about her supposively faithful hubby having an affair, however, James gets upset and angry at his late father for ruining his so-called 'happy little family' of which he thought was near perfection.

Ep15: Former Best Friends: Part One
Katey gets a surprise visit from her former college best friend and UW-Milwaukee roommate, Taryn Matthews (Rachel Bilson). Taryn has come back to visit Katey and offers her an invite to her 21st birthday party back down in Milwaukee at the dorms. Katey accepts the invite and ends up taking Shanna down with her and Taryn. Taryn and Shanna end up not liking each other and start "fighting" for the role of Katey's best friend, which makes Katey end up being torn and causes her to drink more and more. The next morning, Katey wakes up in the dormitory's stairwell, not remembering anything about the night before--which scares her deeply and ends up wanting to just find Shanna and return home immediately.
