People in western times and pioneer days rarely had an opportunity to take a bath. When they did, it was in a free-standing tub in the middle of the room. Someone had to fill the tub with buckets and kettles.

My question is: How did they empty the tub? Since one gallon of water weighs over 8 pounds, it would be impossible to move the tub.

If they had to fill the tub and empty it by buckets, no wonder baths were only occasional.

Good question. That brings up this question too, how did Lucy empty that bathtub she had in the middle of her kitchen?
