Default Shins of Steel

There was a discussion about "The Amateur Hour" when Lucy gets kicked in the shins several times by the Hudson twins. It looks and sounds so real it makes me wince to watch it, although Lucy's facial expressions make me laugh!

We all kind of figured Lucy wore some type of shin guards during those kicks. I think I found evidence of that in this screencap:

Shins of Steel sounds like the title of an aerobics video.

Monika...

Thank you for those pics!!!! You know, when the show is airing, you only get so much time to look at things like that. On DVD, you can actually PAUSE and see what we have been missing.

Yep, there are those shin guards. I figured that is what she used, because those kicking scenes are TOO REAL AND TOO INTENSE! I love looking at that still pic on the Mystery Door Thread. That is so funny.

BTW how do you get these scenes? Do you put the DVD in your computer?

They do show up well in the picture, but you never notice it when you're watching the show.

I know what you mean. I caught a glimpse in an earlier scene and had to go real slow to find this. Of course when they filmed this in 1952, they could hide the things we can now pick apart with one frame frozen in time. They had to think of ways to accomplish the feats that were meant to be viewed at normal speed, and trick our eyes.

Yes, I use one program to scan and find things, then I use another program to "capture" the shot, then I use an editing program if needed. I am sure there are programs that do it all, but I am just learning and don't have a lot of bucks to spend on high-end equipment.

Anyway, it's fun to be able to provide a picture or two to enhance our discussions!

Wow!! That picture should have been included with the DVD! Lucy gave Desi a hard kick to the shins in "Lucy Fakes Illness." I thought that was so funny because he could be so mean to her at times.

Well, I have only watched Lucy since I was 6 years old. And I know Madame is really into Lucy and really knows it inside and out. I know she has educated me on many things I never knew. She and I each have a Lucy book that we find very interesting and use that to help with us here on the Lucy board.

The one that makes me wince every time I see it is the episode where Ricky stubs his toe when they think there's burglars in the Connecticut house. Desi's in bare feet and it looks like he really whacked his big toe on the coffee table.

BTW, I had the opportunity to see a show that aired on WKBW TV in Buffalo earlier this year that they did at the Lucy Desi Museum during Lucy week. A guest on the show was one of the "Twins" from the Amateur Hour episode. I never realized this, but the two boys were not related; he said one of them was a blonde (I forgot which one) and they died his hair black for the show. He said the glasses and matching suits really made them look like identical twins!

Other guests on the show were Lucie Arnaz and Vivian Vance's sister (sorry, I forgot her name). I'm sorry now that I didn't get a copy of that show when I had the chance; I'd like to watch it again to refresh my memory.

I could easily tell the "twins" were in fact, not twins. Also, aren't their names stated at the end of the closing credits? Their names would be mentioned and the last names would not match.

I also have one of the Lucy books that verified that fact abt the actors.

I too have to agree with the Ricky stubbing his toe scene. CAN WE HAVE A SCREEN CAP OF THAT SCENE HERE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!????? He sure looks like he is indeed lots of pain. And I crack up when Lucy puts her hand to his forehead as if she is checking for a temperature.
