They used to do this in Kansas City, they still do it sometimes during non-sweeps periods for Billy Graham specials

in the mid to late 70s; NBC had a show called BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP (later changed to BLACK SHEEP SQUADRON). Our local NBC station used to prempt it every week for a local show, and a UHF station used to show it on Sunday afternoons at 2, or something.
And in the early to mid 70s, NBC had a show called MOVIN' ON, but, also, our local NBC station used to preempt it for a local show. But, no other station in our area showed it. |

Sorry, couldnt finish reading it, the blue on black lettering is hard on the eyes, I was getting a headache....maybe ill try to read more later....reminds me of when Buffalo got UHF channel 29 around the same time, but their time slots were filled with old time shows, many like Burns and Allen and Ozzie and Harriet in B&W ( Not to mention shows I grew up with like Lost in Space and Gilligans Island ).....in fact, many of the shows I was introduced to on that station, I havent seen since 29 became a FOX affiliate, and went to the same format as any other network station.

In the Cleveland market, WEWS-5 (the ABC affiliate) would sometimes pre-empt Whose Line is it Anyway? to air local specials about the Cleveland Clinic. Then they'd air the WLIIA episode after midnight. I wasn't very happy when they'd do that, needless to say.

Then in 1999 I believe, there was almost a whole week of preemptions because of major shootings that were going on, which lead to a huge forest fire, and it seemed liked almost every night was preempted because of this. |

Well, I watched a lot of American shows on Canadian affiliates. The Canadian channels, like Global, CTV, and CBC, very rarely, pre-empt anything.

Yes, back in the day NBC used to pre-empt "Brotherly Love" and "Minor Adjustments" very often for football and baseball...
i also recall "Punky Brewster" getting pre-empted regularly for sports... in my local area the ABC soaps tend to get pre-empted very often for "breaking news reports", which tends to make me mad. |

when ABC started showing "FRIDAYS" my local ABC station used to preempt it every week for a movie; then show "FRIDAYS" after the movie was over, at around 1:30 or 2. They later stopped doing that, though. In the late 70s, before ABC started airing "FRIDAYS" they used to do this with whatever ABC was showing on friday night.
And they used to show their movies without showing the opening, then when it was over they'd show the closing THEN show the opening; for some reason When NBC first started showing David Lettermans daytime show (back in 1980) after the first few months; when it started bombing in the ratings, our local NBC station started showing just the first half; then they'd show a local talk show instead. And later, when he started his nighttime show, they wouldn't show it at all, and instead show reruns of "HAWAII FIVE-O" then people complained, so they started showing it, but AFTER the NBC broadcast; at 1:30. Then people still complained that they weren't showing it when the rest of the country was seeing it; so they took off "HAWAII FIVE-O" and started showing him at it's usual time. |

My Atlanta ABC affiliate (WSB) didn't start airing Jimmy Kimmel Live until July 10, 2007. I wasn't able to watch the first four years. They aired repeats of Entertainment Tonight and the news instead. I guess they made more money that way. Atlanta and Charlotte were the last ABC affiliates to air him.
https://www.ajc.com/life/radiotvtalk...NIJFSNX7I3QHM/ https://www.tvweek.com/in-depth/2007...atlanta-charl/ WSB will occasionally preempt some of ABC's regular primetime programming for specials. They show the scheduled episodes overnight. |

WFIL/WPVI in Philadelphia has a long history of pre-empting ABC network programming. It's well-known--here's a brief rundown:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WPVI-T..._and_deferrals I can remember back in the 1960s they would preempt the network feed of a popular show such as The Dating Game, and sometimes would play it at some low-viewer time, but it would be a low-quality black and white kinescope. |
