Should nick@nite produce its own sitcoms? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Nickelodeons produces most of its shows. Since they appear to be trying to bring the two closer, this might be a good idea. I think what they are trying to do is eventually phase out Nick@Nite for 24hr Nickelodeon (although kids aren't up all night which was the original reason for Nick@Nite. Nickelodeon has become more of a brand than a channel which is why ESPN on ABC replaced ABC sports.

I don't think Nickelodeon is trying to phase out NAN. it's really impossibly for them to do, because most people know NAN as it's own name, and what shows they air. Plus, it's more for the adults, because kids aren't up at 3am watching Spongebob Squarepants.

I honestly don't think producing their own sitcoms would be a good idea, either. I can just image another House of Payne running on NAN's airwaves. I think they should just stick with the specials, like Funniest Mom. Those aren't that bad to watch.

You're kidding me! I knew they had the greenlight for a new show starring the first Funniest Mom, but that was already awhile back. Wasn't the last sitcom they developed "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" from like 1990? I don't think we've seen much else since.

They have quite a few in development. One is:

Nick at Nite has secured celebrity comic and writer Carol Leifer ("Seinfeld," "The Larry Sanders Show") to pen and executive produce the sitcom pilot for Darlene Westgor, who won the chance to develop her own show with the network when she was named Nick at Nite's "Funniest Mom in America" in 2005.

That doesn't mean it will be picked-up for sure, but they do have some in development. They had Let Bob Do It in development, which came from Jason Alexander, but it looks like it never made it pass development.

That's the one. I heard it bombed when it first aired back in the ninties.

I knew they had one for Darlene Westgor, the winner of the first Funniest Mom. She was actually pretty funny, and I might be interested in watching it if it ever hits the air.
