Default Things we learned from Barney Miller

If you are Puerto Rican and get in trouble with the law, pray you won't be arrested by Sgt. Chano Amenguale. He'll berate you until the cows come home! (Same thing if you are a hooker - hope that Wojo doesn't arrest you!)

Never play Trivial Pursuit with Dietrich - he'll cream you!

Never get in the way of Harris and his mirror (or tailor, or publisher...)

Home life is very dull compared to work life. (Barney)

Don't let Fish drive if the two of you are partnered...he's the slowest driver of the 12th!!

Always hire Dietrich to protect you against Howard. (Beverly Fish)

Don't let your small stature get in the way of your dreams. (Levitt)

Don't get romantically involved with a colleague - Harris just might print your story for the entire NYPD to see! (Wojo & Wentworth)

Inspector Luger will never win the title for most politically correct.

Never drink Yemana's coffee unless you have a death wish or want food poisoning. Gotta love Jack Soo.

Detective squad rooms are leaking, creaky hell holes with bad plumbing and broken air conditioners

Senior Detectives openly flaunt to law by making illegal bets on the horses during working hours

Men over 50 cant stay out of the bathroom for more than 15 mins at a time

Police constables apparently never book their own "collars" in NY, and leave that to the detectives, instead

Police inspectors have nothing better to do than to hang around the office, telling the same old boring stories, over and over again

You never get put on hold if you call the Police in NY, as theres always a phone available , and someone to answer it ( yeah, i believe THAT one! )

Never get in the way of Fish and his laxative.

Levitt will do just about anything to make detective

Captain Miller, no matter what, always remains unflappable and calm; and a strong supportive presence for all

Luger will probably never be invited to host the Oscars.

If Luger endorses a candidate, that individual will get creamed come Election Day.

Luger will probably never buy a new suit/hat.

Park detail is a drag - literally! - for the men of the 1-2.

Mr. Kopeckny is offered his own show on the Sci-Fi Channel.

I think we found that you do not have to be a tyrant to be the boss. Respect came from being just a guy with a job and the ability to reach all levels and personality's..

You said it!! I've been blessed to have several supervisors like Barney - level-headed, friendly, professional yet not afraid to get on someone who is doing wrong. Great example!!

Bad coffee and bad bets seem to go together.

Fish and prune juice is a suprisingly good combination.

Marty tends to accessorize very nicely LOL

Lugar can put you to sleep faster than Sominex
