On August 11th, I started a thread called "To Move or Not to Move". On the 19th, I started another called "Just for Fun". Both of these posts were about the age old mystery about why the Bradys spent five years clouistered in that little house. I will have to give a few other posters credit for offereing some "very" interesting responses! In any event, Barry Williams stated in his book that the only "possible" explanation as to why this reality took place was that Sherwood Scwartz took episode 18 "very" seriously! I would now like to offer other Brady fans a "very" remote, far-fetched explanation as to why this man put so much stoock in this one episode!

Given the name of the creator, I would say that there is a very high probobility that he is Jewish. I would be "very" interested in hearing from anyone who could confirm of disprove this hypothosis! In any event, when "The Brady Bunch" was a prime-time series, it was broadcast on Friday Nights. As most of you probably know, this night is the start of the Jewish Sabboth. I am now going to offer you some examples as to what could have happend to old Sherwood on the evening that this episode aired for the first time:

I am not sure exactly what he has in the way of offspring, but I am almost positive that he has, at least two sons. If anyone can tell me exactly what he has in the way of children, this is another thing that I would be "very" interested in! In any event, one of his sons, could have been Bar Mitzvahed on the night that "To Move or Not to Move" was first shown. Another possibility is that it was his wife's turn to light the candles in the synogouge. For those of you who are not familiar with Jewish termonology, the cup the men drink from on the Sabboth is called the Kiddish Cup. One last theory is that the episode could have aired on the night when Sherwood was called up to drink from this ceremonial cup. These are all ideas as to why the creator took this particular episode to heart and did not want to do anything to undo the effects of it!

Before signing off, I would just like to tell the readers one thing that I "know" happened on the day that this episode first came on the screen. The event that I am talking about is that I turned one year old!

You can easily find personal info on Sherwood on the net. Why not check out there?

He has one daughter and one son.

As far as when the show aired (on Fridays) that is the network's decision, not the producer, the creator, etc.

Actually I have read in various Brady books that he has two sons and two daughters, but just one of each (Lloyd and Hope) was involved in The Brady Bunch.

I understand what you meant about how it is the network and not the writer who is in charge of when a given show airs. I was simply suggesting that, if a show happened to air on a night that something special happened to the writer, he might take that episode to heart. If he associates a given episode with a special event in his life, he might not want to write any other episodes that take a way from the point of view expressed on that episode.

On August 11th, I started a thread dedicated to episode eithteen which is "To Move or not To Move". In that message, I gave a pretty good sinopsys of that episode. On the start of this thread, I eloborated on it a little bit more. However, if the last poster would really like more of an explanation, I will be happy to offer one now:

By episode eighteen, the children had been living in the house where Mr. Brady and his first wife had lived in for a couple of months. Because the Brady's original only had the three boys, two children's bedroom and one children's bathroom were adequet. In between the time that the first Mrs. Brady died and they time that Mr. Brady tied the knot again, he had the master bedroom to himself, Alice had her own bedroom and there were two bedrooms for the three boys. I am not sure if Alice had her own bathroom, but that is really besides the point. The point is, when Mr. Brady remarried, there were now two bedrooms and one bath to accomodate "six" children! In the words of Willis from "Different Strokes" sardine city! Because of this, the children started bellyaching and would "not" stop! Mr. and Mrs. came to terms with the fact that the only way to shut them up and still be considered decent parents would be to start looking for a bigger house. After much research, Mr. Brady found such a house and the children jumped for joy! The only task now was finding someone to buy the old house. Burt Grossman, the realistate agent found such a lady. While she was making her decision, the boys started reminicing about all the good times that they had it that house and how hard it would be to let go. The girls started to feel spooked by the thought of other people sleeping in their room even though it had not been their room for very long. Because of how supersticious Alice was, she offered as an explanation as to why another house in the neighborhood never got sold was that it was haunted! The children had the idea of trying to hookwink any perspective buyers into thinking that "their" house is haunted! They make redordings of strainge sounds, design ghost costumes, the whole bit! When the grownups become wise to their scheme, the lady who is thinking of buying the house is touched by how much the children love their home and the lengths they are willing to go to to protect it. She says, "I strongly suspect this house is no longers for sale".

At this point, Mr. Brady shouts out, "did you hear that all you other ghosts? This house is no longer for sale! The shouts of glee and dance steps that the children do push what they did in response to the bigger house into the minor leagues! Years later, Barry Williams gets asked "constantly" why the son of a successful architect would spend "five" years living "three" to a bedroom and "six" to a bath. He said in a book that he wrote that the "only" possible explanation that he can think of was that Sherwood Schwartz took episode eighteen "very" seriously! The reason that I started this thread was to offer an explanation as to "why" he took this particular episode to heart!
