Exclamation Holy cow! Vicki is working on a new TV show!

...And it is going to be based on her Mama character!

MUCH, MUCH, MUCH thanks to member jterry for the heads up. He was the one who sent me the link to this story. (FYI, it's at the bottom of the page at the below link)

http://www.mcall.com/business/local/...0,587447.story

Quote:
Vicki Lawrence, Emmy-winning sidekick on ''The Carol Burnett Show,'' is on the move after 26 years in her home in the Naples section. She has put it on the market at $5 million.

Lawrence and her husband and manager, Al Schultz, are buying a home in Newport Beach to be closer to the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. The couple has a 70-foot racing yacht named ''Vicki.'' They are also buying a second home on the Westside of L.A. so Lawrence can be closer to the studios, where she is in development on a new series based on her ''Mama'' character.

The house they are selling, on Alamitos Bay in the Long Beach area, was built in 1982 and has five bedrooms and 31/2 bathrooms in 4,200 square feet. The house has three levels, two of which have balconies and bay-side views.

A service elevator, three-car garage, gourmet kitchen and 65-foot boat slip are other features.

Lawrence, 58, was on ''The Carol Burnett Show'' for 11 years. ''Mama's Family,'' starring Lawrence, followed.

Ruth Ryon is a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, a Tribune Publishing newspaper.
This is so freakin' exciting!

No idea - I didn't find any info on when it will be debuting, and I'm assuming that, yes, she'll be going by Thelma 'Mama' Harper on the show, like she's done since 1974.

This is so cool! I adore Vicki Lawrence as "Mama." I can't wait to catch her new show when it starts.

I have my doubts about this. Usually when a series or character is revived it never pans out. I just hope that Vicki will keep Mama intact. Without the rest of the Harper's I just cannot envision this. It will be interesting to say the least. But I am all for Vicki! Good luck!

Well, when I met Vicki in July of last year, there were two guys from Comedy Central in line after us to talk to Vicki about a new show. So I don't know if it will be comedy central, but they were there to meet with her.

i agree trying to brong back the glory of an old show is hard but it can be done.
i would love to see Mama back on tv. here is my idea of how to do it right:
mama's crazy family is gone, and although she is a little lonely it is the first time i n years she has had he house to herself, so just as she sits down with a beer infront of a film noir marathon on tv the doorbell rings. it's eunice. her husband has left her and her children have nothing to do with her. she is alone and pennyless, she needs to move in and rebuilt her life.

now how could you go wrong with this set up, it gets back to the roots of what the show/skits were abou ot, just mama and eunice yelling at each other. you could creat new neihbors or bring back other old charaters if you like, but i think by sticking to the basic new set up there is no way to loose.
It could be called "Mama and Eunice". i think ion should do this show as there fist new series.
what do you all think of this show? who would you add to fill out the cast and would you watch it?
