Who is your favorite character and/or favorite actor of the show? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just seem to have a thing for Ed Norton and Art Carney, it's like I'm watching me. I may be smart and know computers and be in College, but I like to act sarcastic and silly. I also feel and many other people feel I'm similar to Adam on MythBusters and guess what, my name is Adam also, close to Art somewhat also, well they both begin with A anyway.

Definitely Norton (Art Carney). I think he had the hardest role to play..especially considering in real life he was a depressed and quiet man. To go from one extreme to another like that takes talent AND Art Carney had it.

Plus I think Norton was just the funniest on the show.

Art Carney was drafted into the Army in 1944 and took part in the D-Day landing at Normandy (WOW). A piece of shrapnel shattered his right leg, leaving him with a leg three-quarters of an inch shorter than the other and a lifelong limp.

But yeah, Carney was the funniest one...an absolute genius.

My favorite player on the show to look at was Alice

Another guy who took part in the D-Day invasion was Hall of Fame Yankee catcher Yogi Berra.

Knowing the way both of these guys were, it would be the last thing I'd guess about the two of them... taking part in the Normandy invasion. But they were there!

Yes I know. He spent 9 months in a hospital recovering from it.

This is a difficult choice to make, but at the end of the day, I'd have to go with Jackie/Ralph. I mean, there would be no Honeymooners without him. Not to discredit Art or Audrey in any way, shape or form, but they were the equivalent of pitchers in a baseball game, pitching to a home run hitter. Jackie was the reactor, and to me, his reactions were the funniest part of the show. Norton and Alice's roles were very important, but most of the time, in my eyes, Ralph stole the show...whether he ended up looking like a complete fool or not.

I like Art but Audrey really played her part great in Alice and the Blonde.

I love when she goes:

"Who needs rum, it's you who go to my head."

"You intoxicate me."

"I call you killer, cause you slay me."

I laugh my ass off to that, every time I see that. It's just so classical to me. I'm connected to the episode though VCR tapes, that my mother owned and it had those episodes, and I keep playing those tapes over and over even though I got DVDs of the episodes now, it's just more of a rememberence of old times.

I too own the classic 39 on vhs. I would not sell them for anything in the world. But to answer the question I love Norton the best. He had the best one-liners. Alice comes in at a close second.

These shows were like little 4 character morality plays....you needed all 4 to act as a whole, a true ensemble cast, thus, I have no preference....i love them all as one entity.

My vote goes to The Full Grown NUT! he he. Although no one could touch the talents of The Great One, Norton just seems to be more lovable and kind. This was all made possible through Gleason. He never tried to steal the lime light away from Carney. It could have gone a whole other way, but I guess Gleason spotted Carney's great talent and let him run with it.

That reminds me of the episode where Ralph and Ed discuss who is the funniest on the honeymooners and ralph says Gleason and Ed says Art Carney and then they meet the stars themselves, awesome episode and probably hard to do as they had to change clothes alot during that episode.

anyway I vote for Ed Norton

I would love to have all of the episodes from The Jackie Gleason variety show, I did record a few many years ago and they were hilarious but I lost the video tape.

"Catch A Star" is my favorite episode! I usually fast forward everything else and just watch that scene... twice lol.

Ralph is my favorite character and my favorite episode is the one where Ralph finds a way to control his temper, until he gets a rent increase notice and refuses to pay the increase. Love that Pins and Needles, needles and pins a happy man always grins LOL.
