Alice comes to mind....Theres always been something about Linda Lavin that grated on me, other than that,I liked the cast.

I couldnt stand Dick Van Patten ( just something about that constantly smug grin of his )...which is why I couldnt watch Eight Is Enough

and Fran Dreshers voice grates on me more than just about ANYTHING!

I was going to say Alice as well. She was boring, too goody-goody, and if the supporting cast wasn't excellent, this show would have been boring. They carried the show.

Well said. Vic Tayback was the REAL star of the show in my opinion.

I always thought the supporting cast of Cheers is what made the show so great. Sam and Diane never interested me all that much.

I also like MASH better when it isn't all about Hawkeye.

All In The Family, I can't stand Archie Bunker but love the rest of them.

Roseanne - I could tolerate Roseanne for about the first 3-4 seasons then she became more obnoxious and bossy. Darlene and Dan made the show for me, IMO

Full House - MK/Ashley Olsen, Maybe they arent the stars so it doesnt count, who knows.

I agree about Cheers - Sam and Diane or Rebecca

The Cosby Show - Claire Huxtable irked my nerves

I could never stand Roseanne on Roseanne. I mainly watched for Laurie Metcalf (Jackie) and John Goodman (Dan).

On the Cosby Show, I couldn't stand Philycia Rashad. Her character Clair, in my opinion thought she was better than everyone else and so bossy. I couldn't stand it! I loved Cliff (Bill Cosby) and Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam).

On Cheers, the only characters I liked were Norm, Cliff, Rebecca, Frasier, Lillith, and Woody. The rest of them I couldn't stand!

On All in the Family, the only characters I liked were Edith and Gloria. I couldn't stand Mike or Archie. Mike was too liberal and Archie was too much of a bigot and was mean to Edith. I loved Carroll O'Connor though.

On Full House I couldn't stand Bob Saget's Danny. He was too much of a clean freak and soooo annoying. I liked Stephanie, Michelle, DJ, Jesse and Rebecca.

Roseanne - Roseanne herself was the whole reason why I hated watching this show! (Even in its original airings!)

Cheers - Sam was OK, but I def. couldn't stomach Diane very much! That's why I was more partial to the Rebecca-era!

Cosby Show, The - Felicia Rashad, ditto!

Gimme a Break! - Nell Carter tended to grind my ears a little too much at times with her voice!

Bewitched - Dick Sargent, he always seemed pissed in nearly every scene he was in and like Roseanne and Nell Carter, his voice, too grated my nerves!

hmmm interesting...

Fraser- i liked the supporting cast- Peri Gilpin, Jane Leeves, David Hyde Pierce but never cared for Kelsey Grammer and espeically not for John Mahoney...

Growing Pains- LOVE the show, love everything about it but Alan Thicke always sort of annoyed me...

Baywatch- loved everyone, but could never stand David Hasselhoff

and to me, the ultimate example of this Alias where the supporting cast is tolerable, but i just cannot for the life of me stand Jennifer Garner, i find her annoying, irritating, untalented and overexposed...

I can't really think of a show where I hated the main character or star but loved the supporting cast. If I don't like the main character on a show, I don't bother watching it. To me, the main character has to be likable or else I'll never be able to get into the show long enough to like the supporting cast.

I didn't mind Alice, but I did watch the sitcom mainly for Mel and Flo.
