What's the point of living when you have no money, no house or apartment, no car? You might as well be dead because having no money can drive a person insane. I know being broke, not having a place of my own and no car would upset me so much that i would kill myself. Being homeless is scary to me and it baffles me that most homeless people are content with being on the streets and having nothing. I know that some of them have mental problems, drug addicts, alcoholics but what about the ones who don't have anything wrong with them? What's their excuse? Even the ones who have mental problems, drug addicts, alcoholics still should have a place to stay and a job because a homeless shelter isn't a good environment for them to be in. Homeless shelters i'm sure smell bad because homeless people smell. I know the food they get served probably is terrible and they probably get served the same food. I do believe that homeless people have to help themselves have a better life instead of depending on other people to help them better themselves.

They continue on living because they never lose hope that someday something good will happen look at Chris Gardner who was the vocal point of the movie the Pursuit of Happyness.

I think most homless people choose to be homless. How hard is it to get out there and try to get a job? If you don't get the job you want and that's why your not working, move on. Get off your high horse and try to find something else. If you keep on getting turned down for jobs, try again.

It's true that a lot of them have metal problems and addictions that simply prevent them from obtaining or maintaining a job. I knew a gentleman who was on medication for paranoid Schizophrenia. He didn't like how the meds effected him and so he stopped taking them. Unfortunately, he had a breakdown at the worse possible time, in the worse possible place. I won't go into details.

Lets just say, a lot of his friends, including myself, did everything they could to help him. But he ultimately chose to stay off the meds. Now I see him downtown from time to time. He really had no where to turn in his mind.

On the other end of the spectrum, I knew a young woman who chose to live in the woods. She hated the establishment. She hated living on the grid, hated everything about societies dependence on money. She had no desire to own a home or car that would put her in debt. She couldn't be bothered with such things. One of the most intelligent and attractive individuals I've had the privilege to meet. I may not agree with a lot she said, and she certainly was extreme from time to time. But she had purpose and standards. And that, I can respect. Her boyfriend also chose to live on the streets, although living in the woods was like a whole other world to him. He'd prefer the city homeless arena.

One night, while waiting for the bus, a homeless man went on and on about his life. It was a mix of drugs and alcohol and hard-times. His advice to me, as I stepped on the bus was this: "Don't ever become homeless. It's terrifying. Fear and the sound of the cars going by will keep you from sleeping. You'll become an alcoholic just to get some sleep."

Another time a man sat down beside me and ranted and raved about some injustice or another. He was not talking to me. But he wanted someone to know. After I got on the bus, he was silent and simply walked away. A lot of them just want someone to talk to. Society and people in general have a tendency to shut them out, ignore them, look down upon them. People are social creatures, and when you shut them out, they get lonely.

A lot of the time, it's a choice. Other times, life just takes you places you never would have chosen. And you can't find your way back. Humans are imperfect. We make wrong turns and burn wrong bridges. It's life and it's human.

Yeah most are alcoholics and block it out by drinking, did anyone ever see bumfights were they fighted eachother for drink!!! that was wrong whoever did that to them.

I saw that there are websites that show homeless people fighting each other which is very ignorant. I've also heard about young male teenagers beating up and killing homeless people for fun. That's ignorant also. When your homeless and you're on the streets, the streets are scary especially if you're in a bad neighborhood. I've talked to a few homeless black and white women and they've told me they do drugs. I just don't understand how homeless people can be alright with not having a car, a place of their own and money. It's like that stuff doesn't matter to them. They're cool as long as they got some drugs and alcohol. I just will never understand that. I'd rather be dead if i was homeless because there's no point in living when you have no money because money can help you get a car, clothes, food and a place of your own. Without those things, you might as well be dead. I ran away from my grandparents home to a homeless shelter when i was living with them because my grandfather(my grandmother died before i moved out)had put me out because i couldn't keep a job and i couldn't get a good paying job. So i had to move back to Maryland with my parents which i didn't wanna do. I stayed at the homeless shelter for about 10 minutes before i realized that wasn't a place i wanted to be because if i would've stayed there, i would've had to share a bunk bed with another homeless person and i'm sure my clothes and other stuff would've gotten stolen.
