i have a learning disability which is preventing me from getting a good paying job so i can take care of myself. I went to see another psychiatrist so i could get a 2nd opinion about my problem and he ran some tests on my brain and he came to the conclusion that i have a learning disability. So then he told me to call a 1-800 number to talk to a government employee and show them medical proof from my psychiatrist that i'm mentally disabled so i could qualify for a government assistance check every month. The government employee i talked to told me i will be getting $2,000 every month. I was shocked. I didn't think i would get that much money. I told my psychiatrist that i didn't wanna quit my daytime full time job as a porter/janitor and he said that it's ok for me to continue to work there. I told him that i do wanna quit my 2nd job so he said i can do that. Well with this government money i'll be getting, i'll finally be able to move outta my parents house and get my own place. I did some research about learning disability last week at the library and i printed out 3 pages of information from the internet. Everything i read is exactly the problem i have. I should've did some research on this a long time ago when i kept losing jobs because i should've known then that something was wrong with me but i always thought nothing was wrong with me. It's not normal for a person to continue losing jobs so that's why i should've known i had a problem. I also should've known i had a problem because i'm afraid to apply for good paying jobs because good paying jobs require you to use your brain and figure things out. Jobs that pay low salaries don't require a lot of figuring things out. Janitorial work is the only job i've been good at doing because it doesn't require you to use your brain and the work is simple. I've tried other jobs where you have to use your brain and i haven't succeeded at keeping those jobs. I know it's not normal for a person like myself to be 30 years old and living with your parents and jobhopping making a low salary. How come i'm the only one who sees something is wrong with me? I've tried explaining my problem to my parents but they don't wanna believe me. I don't know what more i have to do to show them something is wrong with my brain. My brother is the only person who understands that something is wrong with me because he told me a long time ago that he thinks i have a mental block.

I'll keep you posted. I'd rather work than sit at home but i can't control my problem. Sometimes things happen in life that you have no control over and this learning disability i have is something i can't control that i wish i could fix. I love money and i would like to have a lot of it but that's not gonna happen if i can't work. I would like to have a nicer car but it takes a lot of money to get that and maybe i could get it since this government check i'll be getting could help. I'm glad this other psychiatrist i saw didn't recommend that i take some medication to help my problem because he told me realistically that medication can't help a person who has a learning disability all of a sudden be able to figure things out.

It's good you're choosing to keep your day job. Sitting around can get boring sometimes. And that way you still feel productive. I have an uncle on disability who refuses to work. I hate him because he's not even "disabled." He's diabetic. All sorts of diabetics work. He's just a piece of crap imo.

It is good to hear that you followed up on what you said you were going to do. Seeing a psychiatrist, therapist, etc. is not a bad thing. It is only a bad thing if you need their help and don't seek it.

I have a cousin who refuses to work and she has diabeties, its not the bad kind she dosnt have to inject herself, she is a lazy sod that dosnt want to work so uses that as an excuse. I know alot of diabetics that work.

I am not denying what you are saying is true, but $2,000 a month because of a learning disability? Am I the only one who sees something wrong with that?

There are people who still have to bust their asses in their 60's and 70's to make that kind of money. There are people who work two or even three jobs that need to support their families and because of a "learning disability" others get a free hand out.

I am sorry, but I think that is totally bull****! I have no problem with people who have severe mental illness and disabilities getting money from the government, but some of this sounds like pure laziness. I have been diagnosed with depression and bi polar disorder and also have suffered from seizures, but I bust my ass day in and out to make a living.

I started working as an unpaid intern and then got a job paying about 9 bucks and hour and through hard work and long hours kept getting promoted to where I am now. I'm sorry, but some of this seems to be pure nonsense.

Brian you always got something negative to say about me everytime i post. I don't give a damn that you don't believe me that i'm gonna get $2,000 a month. Don't get mad because i'm gonna get a lot of money every month and you will probably never see that much money working. Do something about trying to make more money instead of getting mad at other people for getting lots of money for doing nothing.

1. I make a heck of a lot more than 2,000 a month.

2. Learning Disabilities doesn't prevent somebody from working...laziness does.

A learning disability can be corrected...other mental illnesses sadly, cannot. You yourself have posted several different times that you don't want to work hard, you want easier jobs that make a lot of money such as acting. You said that...not me.

You might want to double check that figure of 2 grand a month. I have an aunt, an uncle, a daughter-in-law, sister-in-law (now deceased) and a niece who get disability checks from the government, and the largest amount I've heard of is $750. Are you referring to SSI (Supplemental Security Income)?

How do you figure a learning disability doesn't prevent people from working? Have you done research about it? No. I've done some research about it and i read that it can prevent you from working because if your brain doesn't allow you to figure things out, how can you do your job? A supervisor isn't gonna tell a person everything to do all the time on the job. A supervisor pays a employee to do their job. A supervisor doesn't pay a employee to tell them everything to do. A employee has to figure things out on their own about their job. I've had jobs before that i've been fired from because my supervisors told me i work too slow. I blame myself for that because i shouldn't be working at my own pace but i've never been a fast worker. I know from now on i will never apply for a hard labor job ever again because the work is too hard. I've had several factory hard labor jobs that paid a low salary and those jobs are too much to handle. Jobs like that shouldn't be paying a low salary.
