Stephon Marbury defends Michael Vick, calls dogfighting a sport
Posted: Wednesday Aug 22, 2007 3:16 PM

NEW YORK (AP) - New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury defended Michael Vick, calling dogfighting a sport and comparing it to hunting.

Marbury spoke Monday about the federal dogfighting conspiracy charges against Vick while promoting his basketball shoe in Albany, N.Y.

"I think it's tough,'' Marbury said, according to Albany TV station Capital News 9. "I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors.''

On Monday, Vick said through a lawyer that he will plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. He also faces possible prosecution in Virginia.

"I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down,'' Marbury said. "I think he's one of the superb athletes, and he's a good human being. I just think that he fell into a bad situation.''

Someone should put Marbury and one of the dogs in the ring, see how much of a "sport" he will think it is when Buster is chewing on his leg

I hate steph as a person and a player. Hearing this makes me hate him a lot more as a person. He's stupid lets see steph act so tough when he's placed in a house with 50 pitbulls.
Picking to like steph as a person or a basketball player is like picking which puddle of vomit to lick!!!
I wish he was here right now so I could slap the hell out of him

I was just starting to like this guy too. He helped develop an inexpensive b-ball shoe to market to inner city youth and raise money for various charitable programs, and now he says something like this.

Shut up Stephon.

Vick isn't some victim of a society trying to "break him down."

He's a moron who participated in a horrible, cruel activity that shouldn't even be mentioned in the same paragraph as the word "sport."

"We" built Vick up and "We" broke him down. Yeah, it's everyone's fault, but Vick's, of course. There's a pantload if I ever heard one. He just fell into a bad situation. Riiiight. He's the creep who financed and organized the entire illegal and disgusting operation. It's the poor dogs who fell into a bad situation. And "Good human beings" don't do what that monster did, nor do they defend him.

OMG, that is the same guy?????? I seen him on 20/20 and I was so glad that someone had come up with a shoe that kids would want that didn't cost two arms and two legs. NOW THAT HE SAID THIS CRAP, HE JUST BLEW WHATEVER CREDIBILITY HE HAD! Screw him and his shoes.

This guy may not be a bonehead by act...but, hes in line for a best bonehead QUOTE of the week!

Dogfighting is no more a sport than rodeos and bullfighting, both of which I am against, they are all just animal cruelty, on a par with what the Romans did in the Colliseum!

I doubt they'll try that because it's pretty obvious that the guy is guilty. He's not fighting the charges, he's throwing himself at the court's mercy because he's nailed. Marbury is the only one who has even come close to defending him.

I have a feeling somewhere down the road, SOMEONE will use it. Not Vick, but someone. They will say something like, "There are more white men in this sport...blah blah blah." Or that Vick is being used as a scapegoat BECAUSE of his race... I see it and smell it coming.
