A glimpse at Drew Carey's Price is Right

If anyone was curious as to what the Drew Carey-hosted version of The Price is Right is going to look like, here's a taste.

The picture above is of Carey and Rebecca Dobkowitz, daughter of TPiR's longtime producer, Roger Dobkowitz, standing in front of one of the three huge doors on the set. It looks like they're giving the show a bit of a retro-modern look, which seems to fit the nature of the show pretty well.

Where did the picture come from? Facebook, of course! Rebecca put it up on her page, but took it down after it rocketed around the interwebs. Alex Davis of BuzzerBlog posted it a few days ago, generating more details about the revamped set from people who have seen recent tapings. More on that after the jump.

According to commenters on BuzzerBlog, there have been some other minor changes to the TPiR set:

The other two doors will have the same pattern, except one will be blue and one will be green.
The giant price tag will be green and have the same pattern as the doors.
There will be neon lights situated just below the green border surrounding each door.
The turntable's panels will have the same pattern as the doors but in purple, with blue and green carpeting on the steps.
The curtains around the back of the studio are in pastel shades of light blue, yellow and orange.
The Showcase Showdown wheel hasn't changed. Neither have the games that the BuzzerBlog readers saw during the tapings they attended (more reports on Drew's first week of tapings are at Golden-Road.net).

So, it looks like the set will get a spruce-up, but stay largely the same as it has for the past 35 years. One tidbit from the commenters: Roger Dobkowitz mentioned that Fremantle, the producer of TPiR, wanted the set to be remade to look similar to what they use for American Idol. If that's actually true, whoever was able to successfully fight against that should get a thank you note from every TPiR fan; the last thing Drew needs is to take over for Bob Barker on yet another set with neon platforms and streaming blue lights. He might get confused and think he's on his other show, The Power of 10.

The Price is Right with Drew Carey Premieres October 15th

CBS's Emmy-Award winning The Price Is Right, with new host Drew Carey, will have its 36th season premiere on Monday, October 15 (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT), on the CBS Television Network. Carey was recently named host of television's long-running game show, succeeding former host Bob Barker, who retired in June after 35 years on the show.

The new season will start out with some exciting wins, as several contestants make some lucky spins on the big Wheel. Others have the chance to win some of the most expensive cars ever given away on the show, as well as trips to exotic locations and more amazing prizes. In addition, the familiar set has been refreshed to give it an updated look while keeping the recognizable The Price Is Righttheme and appearance.

Carey, a stand-up comic turned actor and producer who is best known for having two hit shows simultaneously The Drew Carey Show and Whose Line Is It Anyway? - is also the host of the Network's Power of 10 a high-stakes, primetime game show where contestants compete for the chance to win $10 million. He was also a producer and host of Whose Line Is It Anyway?which continues to air in syndication.

The Price Is Right, which won the 2007 Emmy for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show, is now in its 36th season and is television's longest-running game show. It is a FremantleMedia North America production. The series is broadcast weekdays (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.

I'll have to check it out, because, I'm tired of watching the Bob Barker reruns from last season. If I can see Drew Carey on and the new set, I'm going to be very upset and I will not watch the new season anymore. Will see what happens.
