((The house))
MG: Alright, I want you all to stay safe while I am gone okay?
B: Yes Mrs. Garett..we will be fine!
MG: And if anything happens to either one of you then you know where to call.
N: We know!
MG: You know the number right?
T: Yes Mrs. Garett!!
MG: And make sure that..
J: (Cuts her off) Will you leave already!? Everything will be fine!!
MG: Oh..okay..well..have fun!! (Leaves)
B: Gosh..she has to learn to trust us more!
T: Just because she is staying at her sister's for a week doesn't mean she has to watch us like we're a glass vase!
J: Tootie, with Mrs. Garett, it does.
N: Has anyone stopped to think about what we are going to do all week while Mrs. Garett is gone? She closed the store..there's nothing to do!
T: I don't know WHY she closed the store at all!
B: She probably thought we couldn't manage it for the week.
J: Well Blair..with you I don't blame her.
N: Guys please don't get into a fight already! She's only been gone for about five minutes!
T: Four.
N: Four!
B: Well..I'm going to fluff up my hair. It is way too dull.
J: I'm going to clean my bike.
N: What?! Wait a second! You mean to say that while Mrs. Garett is gone your going to do the normal everyday things you always do?! This is our chance to be free!
T: Yeah!
N: Our chance to be independant!
T: Yeah!
N: Our chance to have fun!
T: Yeah!!
N: Tootie shut up.
T: Yeah! I mean..ok.
B: Well we are definetly not going cruising!
J: And we can't throw a party..look at this place!
T: Well then what do we do?!
(The phone rings.)
B: (Answers it) Hello? (Listens) Yes..here she is...(Takes the phone away from her ear) It's for you, Jo..
J: Who is it?
B: Your aunt..
J: (Confused.)
B: She sounds worried...
J: (Grabs the phone and answers it.) Yeah? (Long pause) What's the matter? (She listens and finally goes pale and goes quiet.) W-w-hat?... (She looks as though she's about to cry)
(Later that day)
((The girl's bedroom.))
J: I can't belive this!
B: Jo..don't panic!
J: What do you mean don't panic?! Blair my cousin has cancer!!!
N: Jo listen to me! It is going to be alright!
J: No it won't Natalie nothing is going to be alright! (Long pause until she finally starts to cry.)
B: (Signals for Natalie and Tootie to leave.)
(Natalie and Tootie leave)
B: (Long pause) Jo..listen to me..I've been through this...my mom had cancer..but we got through it!
J: Blair she is going to die!!
B: No she isn't! Becky is not gonna die! Your loosing hope already!
J: (Gets up) Blair its not just Becky!!!
B: What do you mean?
J: My aunt told me other things too!
B: What things?
J: (Long pause) Becky lives in Conneticuit..
B: And?
J: And...I have to go visit her!
B: (Quiet) Oh...when?
J: Thursday!!
B: Jo you didn't tell me...
J: Blair..I don't wanna have to face her!!!
B: Jo..everything will be okay! I'l give you money for the tickets..you won't have to pay...
J: (Picks her head up) Blair..I don't wanna go alone!! I know you never heard me say this but Im afriad to face her! Im afraid to face someone whose in the condition of dying!
B: Jo...do you want me to come?
J: (Long pause) Yes...
B: I will. (Hugs Jo)
J: (Hugs her)

Guys -- I gotta go! Sorry! How do you like it?

T: What!?
N: If Mrs. Garett was here then she would never let you and Jo go to Conneticuit on a train!
B: We are going to see Becky Natalie! By the time we get back Mrs. Garett won't even be here yet! And plus..for the first time in my life Jo needs me so I am going to be there for her! (Leaves)
N: (Sighs)
T: (Sighs but then smiles)
N: Tootie what in the world are you similing for?!
T: Well...it will just be you and me....
N: No really!?
T: Well..let's show Mrs. Garett we are really mature!! And we can handle being alone!!
N: Tootie..Mrs. Garett doesn't even know we're gonna be alone!!!
T: So let's surprise her! Open up Edna's Edibles..and let's make money!!! Lots of it!!!
N: I dunno..
(About an hour later.)
B: (By the front door with her luggage)
J: (Comes next to her with a luggage.)
B: Ready?
J: Yeah...
T: Bye guys!
N: Asta Lavista!
B: (Hugs Natalie and Tootie)
J: (Hugs Natalie and Tootie also.)
B and J: (Leaves)
T: Well...just us...Let's go open the store!! (Runs out)
N: Tootieeee!!!! (Runs out)
((The train))
J: (Sitting quietly)
B: (Looking at Jo) You okay?
J: Oh yeah, I'm ok. My cousins dying of cancer and I gotta face her. Im ok.
B: Jo..listen to me. Friends are suppose to be there for each other. And I'm your friend so I am going to be here for you...so whenever you have a problem tell me..ok?
J: (Stares at her) After all the bad things I call you..you'd actually offer that to me?
B: (Smiles and nods) Yeah. I was excactly innocent.
J: (Smiles) Thanks.
B: Your welcome.
J: (Hugs her)
((Edna's Edibles))
T: Four hippo rolls for the price of one!!!
N: Tootie we aren't suppose to do that!!
T: So?! More customers will come!
N: And more of our money will go!
T: Nat calm down! Mrs. Garett would be happy to see more people are coming!
N: (Sighs)
T: Hey people, five crossiants for the price of one! Plus one free!!!
N: Tootie!!!!! I am gonna leave if you don't stop!!
T: (Looks at Natalie) Then leave.
N: (Surprised) Fine. (Leaves)
T: (Stares and turns away) C'mon people!!
((outside))
(Two men are looking in through the window)
Man1: Aye..look..its a kid. Think she'll drop us bucks?
Man2: I dunno. We can try it. Can't get into trouble for askin'.
Man1: A'ight. I'll go first. (Goes in)
((Edna's Edibles))
Man1: (Walks up to counter) Miss..you gotta help me!
T: What?
Man1: My wife and I are homeless..we just got back from a accident in our car. The cars totalled and we need money, please!
T: I don't know..
Man1: PLEASE miss!
T: Well..how much?
Man: Well..about a hundred?
T: What?! No way!!!
Man1: But we'll die!!!! Please!!!
T: (Sighs) FINE. (Pulls out a hundred and hands it to him fast)
Man1: Thank ya!!! (Leaves)
T: (Curious but then forgets about it.) Well..we can spare a hundered. (Starts talking to the customers again) Three crossiants and three free!!!!
((Outside))
Man1: Yea! Got a hundred!!!
Man2: Good job. Now we can't pull of the plan, so you know what that means.
Man1: Wha?
Man2: We gotta make a break in. Tonight.
((The train))
(The train stops)
B: Cmon Jo..time to get off. We're there.
J: Alright. (Gets up)
(The two walk off the train.)

Guys..sorry but I gotta go! How do you like it?

B: Is this it??
J: Yeah..this is it.
B: Want me to go in with you? Or do you wanna go alone?
J: You can come.
B: Ok.
(They both walk up to the front door and knock)
(A young girl answers it.)
J: (Long pause) Becky?
Be: Hi..Jo..whose this?
B: Oh..Blair..nice to meet you. (Shakes her hand)
Be: Same to you. Come in, both of you.
(Jo and Blair come in.)
(Becky shuts the door)
J: Um..where's your mom?
Be: Oh..food shopping. She's making us dinner tonight.
J: Oh..
Be: I guess you heard about me right?
J: Yeah.
Be: Figures. I didn't want my mom to tell anyone.
J: You wanted her to just keep a secret of it?
Be: Until now! It's embarassing!
B: Um..where can I put our luggages?
Be: In the corner.
B: Alright. (Puts them in the corner)
Be: Jo, I have to tell you something.
J: What?
Be: Um..alone..please...
B: (Smiles) Sure. (Leaves)
Be: (Turns to Jo) Jo, its not cancer.
J: What?
Be: (Long pause as her eyes go teary.) It's worse.
J: What? What is it?
Be: Jo..its lukemia.
((Edna's Edibles))
T: Thanks! Come again!
N: (Comes in) Well? How much did you make?
T: Well I had to give a hundred away.
N: What?!
T: This guy..he was in a car accident. He needed money. I thought it couldn't hurt.
N: Tootie what is wrong with you?!!? We're one hundred dollars short! Mrs Garetts gonna kill us! No! Not Us! Not me! You!
T: Natalie she isn't coming for another week! Don't worry!
N: (Sighs and leaves)
((Becky's House))
J: (Sitting on the couch crying)
Be: Jo please don't cry! That makes me cry even more!!
J: (Stops and looks up) How long do you have left?
Be: (Puts head down) a month.
J: (Starts crying all over again.) I can't belive this! Why?!
Be: I don't know! It was cancer but it was then detected as lukemia!
J: (Puts her head down.)
(Becky's mom comes in.)
BM: Jo? What's wrong..oh. Becky, you told her didn't you?
Be: (Runs out of the room crying.)
B: (Comes in) Oh..hello..
BM: Hi, I'm Becky's mom.
B: Blair Warner, Jo's friend..(Sees Jo is crying.)
BM: (Leaves)
J: I wanna go home.
B: What? We just got here!
J: I WANNA GO HOME!
B: Why??
J: BLAIR SHE HAS LUKEMIA!
B: (Quiet) Oh..
J: I wanna leave. I can't stand to look at her knowing that she is going to die in a month!
B: You can't tell her that!!!
J: BLAIR I WANNA LEAVE OKAY?!!
B: (Quietly) Ok...
J: Today.
B: Why?
J: BLAIR PLEASE!
B: (Sighs) Fine.
((The train.))
B: I can't belive you wanted to just leave!
J: I couldn't stand being there anymore!
B: Does Becky even know your gone?
J: Her mom does. I told her everything about me being afraid..she says she understands..
B: Jo, how is Becky going to feel?
J: I don't know. All I know is I am scared.
B: (Smiles) Don't worry Jo. It will be alright.
(About 9 o'clock PM.)
Man2: (Slowly walks up the Edna's Edibles and smashes the glass window.)
Man2: (Runs to the counter and opens the cash register, taking about two hundred bucks out. He then leaves when Tootie runs in)
T: Hey!!! Stop it!!! Stop!!! (Stops)
N: What is it?!!?
T: That guy stole all the money!!
N: Oh great!!!
(The next morning)
B: We're home everyone! (Sees the window in the store.) Oh god..
J: What happned?!
N: Blair! Someone broke in and stole the money!!
T: WE ARE BANKRUPT!!
B: WHAT?? TOOTIE!! NATALIE!!
N: IT WASN'T MY FAULT!! TOOTIE WAS THE ONE WHO GAVE THE MAN 100$
T: WELL I DIDN'T GO OFF TLELING HIM TO BREAK IN!!
B: Calm down. (Pulls out a check and writes it out for fivehundred and gives it to her.) There. Tootie, go cash it in.
T: Ok..bye. (Leaves)
(An hour later)
(The phone rings.)
J: (Answers it) Yeah? (Goes pale) WHAT?!!! (Throws the phone and starts crying.)
B: Jo! What is it?!
J: (YELLS) BECKY IS DEAD!!! SHE DIED!!
B: What?!?!!?
J: BLAIR SHE DIED OF LUKMIA!! IT WAS SUDDEN! THE DOCTORS MADE A MISTAKE! (Falls to the ground crying.)
B: Jo! (Picks her up) Calm down..calm down...
J: NO!!! BECKYS DEAD!! (Crys in Blairs arms)
(Later that day)
(Mrs. Garett is home and they told her everything.)
Mg: I can't belive this..
B: But we handled the store. The stores fine.
T: Who is gonna talk to Jo?
B: I will. (Goes upstairs) Jo?
J: I shouldn't of left!!! BlAIR GET OUT!
B: No! I am here to help you!
J: (Quiet)
B: Things happen in life. People die. Becky died. It wasn
't your fault!! Nothing was your fault!
J: Blair..I cant belive this happend!
B: Neither can I, Jo. But..thats the way things are. Just..be glad...you saw her before her death.
(They hug and Jo cries in her arms)
J: Blair?
B: Yes?
J: your..my best friend...
(They hug as Jo continues crying)
