(jo is on her motorcycle on her way home)
J:i can't believe it! why me? what am i going to tell the others?
-at home-
N:where can she be? jo promised to help me with my math homework. typical! real typical!
T: don't worry nat! She probably got preoccupied. when has jo actually let you down?
N: well there was the time...(jo walks in)
N:finally, there you are. now, i'm having trouble with this one problem.
J: not now, nat, please? just tell mrs.g i'm gonna skip dinner tonight and i will be up stairs (jo goes up stairs)
T: something is wrong. she seems kinda upset (with a worried look on her face)
(blair walks in)
B: hi all! is jo back yet?
N:uh yeah... she is upstairs.
T: she's not acting like herself, though.
B: you mean she is actually being nice?
N&T: Blair!!!!
B: sorry! do you know what's wrong?
T: no she came in and it looked like she had been crying. i hope she is ok.
N: yeah me too. she said she didn't want dinner, then she went upstairs.
B: i better go check on her. (goes upstairs)
-bedroom-
(jo is lying on her bed starring at the ceiling)(doesn't notice blair & continues to mumble to herself)
B: jo, are you alright?
(jo startled by blair, sits up suddenly and wipes tears away from her eyes)
J: yeah i'm fine. could i just be alone for a while?
B: what's wrong, jo? you can tell me.
J: can't i just be alone for a while? i really don't feel like talking about it right now
B: ok but you know i'm here for ya!
J: thanks blair.
(blair leaves and jo starts pacing back and forth, talking to herself)
J: maybe i should tell them, what will they say? or maybe i shouldn't. they don't need to know. i don't know what to do. (starts crying again, leans up against the wall and slowly slides down it and pulls her knees toward her chest)
-edna's edibles-
(mrs. garret is closing the store and blair walks in)
MG: oh hi blair! how was your day?
B: mine was fine, but i don't think jo's was.
MG: what do you mean?
B: well she came home today and went straight upstairs and i was just up there and she was crying. mrs. garret, i'm worried about her! (starting to tear up also)
MG: oh i know you are. do you know what happened?
B: no she didn't want to talk about it and she doesn't want dinner either.
MG: oh dear, i wonder what's wrong!!!
B: she said she wants to be left alone right now. i'm going to talk to her after dinner...if she will let me.
MG: okay. can you ask natalie and tootie to set the table and will you help me get dinner ready. we'll let jo be.
B: ok mrs. garret.
-bedroom-after dinner-
(jo still sitting against the wall, but not crying anymore)(blair enters)
B: jo, i brought you some dinner. i figure you must be a little hungry.
J: thanks! where is everyone?
B: oh they went to see that new tom cruise movie.
J: why didn't you go?
B: i was too worried about you
J: oh
B: do you want to talk now?
J: not really but will you just stay up here with me for a while?
B: sure
(blair is looking at a bloomingdale's catalogue and jo is sitting on her bed, she begins to cry)(blair approaches her)
B: are you ok?
J: no, blair, remember i had that doctor's appointment today?
B:yes
J: well it was supposed to be aa regular check-up...
B: jo what is it?
J: blair, i...i...

J: i don't think you can. well you see i've been getting a lot of headaches lately so i went to the doctor. i had a catscan and...the....well...found...
B: what!?!
J: the found a..a growth at the bottom of my...my brain. you know, a tumor. blair, what am i going to do? (begins to cry again)
(blair hugs jo and also begins to cry)
B: jo, we will get through this TOGETHER! i mean, what are best friends for? (jo tries to smile)
J: thanks blair! another thing, i go in for surgery next thursday morning to get it removed.
B: wow, that's fast? how succesful is it usually?
J: well it depends on how big and where the tumor is. blair, i'm scared. i mean really scared. Just say you will be there when i wake up.
B: of course and don't worry, you will be fine.
J: i sure hope so (feeling as a burden had been lifted, jo ate the dinner that blair brought up to her)
-a couple minutes later-
(nat and tootie walk in)
N: hi guys!
T: howya doin',jo?
J: better. look i'm sorry for being so mean earlier. i have a lot on my mind.
N: what's up jo?
T: yeah what happened
J: i wanna tell mrs. g at the same time.
(blair goes and gets mrs. garret)
B: hi mrs. garret
MG: hi blair! how's jo?
B: well that's why i came here. she wants to talk to all of us together.
MG: alright!
-back in the bedroom-
J: hey mrs. g!
MG: hi jo
T: c'mon jo out with it
J: ok fine, guys this is hard for me to say...
(blair walks over and puts her arm around jo's shoulder)
B: don't worry, i'm right here1
J: ok here it goes. well...um...ya see...
N: i've never seen you haves such a hard time telling us something. something is definatel wrong.
J: yeah it is. well i have a tumor on the base of my brain (says it really fast)
(nat, tootie, and mrs. garret's eyes widen in disbelief)(mrs. garret walks over and hugs jo)
MG: oh i'm so sorry, jo.
J: well another thing. the surgery is thurs. next week.
N: wow you work quick!
J: what am i going to do? (crying again)
MG: well jo, your going to have that surgery and then you will be fine. i'm sure of it.
J: i hope so.

(everyone is in the waiting room when the docor comes out)
D: ms. polniaczek, we are ready to get you prepped for surgery.
J: ok, bye guys!
B: good luck! see ya when you wake up. (hug)
MG: bye--you'll be fine. (hug)
N&T: bye jo (hug)
(the nurse takes jo to the er)
MG: excuse me, doctor. how long will she be in surgery for?
D: it should be about 5 hours, if all goes well.
T: if...if...what do you mean by if. you the doctor. i think you should know how to do this and there should be no if. (overreacting)
N: tootie, calm down!
T: sorry, nat.
MG: thank you doctor and please take care of her
D: i will do my best.
-3hours later-
(natalie and tootie are asleep in the waiting room)(blair is pacing back and forth)
MG: she'll be ok, blair!
B: but what if she isn't?
MG: she will be
B: i hope you are right. i don't know what i would do without her
MG: i understand. now why don't you sit down and try to relax. i'll go get you some coffee.
B: thanks mrs. garret!
-2 1/2 hours later-
T: what is taking them so long? they should have been out of there half an hour ago.
MG: tootie calm down! the 5 hrs. was an approximation.
N: what if tootie's right? what if something did go wrong?
B: look, nothing went wrong. jo is...
D: polniaczek?
B,MG,N,&T: yes!!!!
D: the surgery went well and right now jo is in recovery room 428. she might have a little bit of temporary memory loss, but you may see her now. she should be awake in a few minutes. i'll talk to you all later.
MG: thank you very much.
B: mrs. garret could i go in first? i promised jo i would be there when she woke up.
MG: of course, blair!

(jo is lying on the hospital bed with an I.V. in her arm and a bandage around her head. even though she is asleep, there is a look of pain on her face)
(blair walks in and stopped, afraid to look at jo, but realizes she has to be strong for her)
B: hi jo. i'm here. just like i said i would be. the doctor said you are doing fine.
(jo begins to open her eyes, but closes them quickly due to the light. she then opens them again.)
J: blair, where am i?
B: your in the hospital, remember you had surgery?
J: oh yeah, i remember now
B: how are you feeling?
J: like a whole herd of elephants just walked all over my head. (blair chuckles a bit)
B: well then just rest. i'll stay here with you.
J: thanks blair!
(nat, tootie, and mrs. garret walk in)
MG: how's she doing, blair?
B: as good as can be expected.
(jo wakes back up)
J: hi guys (in a weak voice)
MG: oh hi jo! i'm so glad you are ok.
N: me too!
T: i was so worried
MG: well jo, tootie, natalie, and i are going home. we will be back a little later to check on you.
J: ok thanks bye
N: buh-bye jo
(they all leave)
J: so blair did the doctor say anything else?
B: no, he just said he would talk to us later.
J: okay do you mind if i just rest for a while?
B: no, go right ahead.
(jo falls back to sleep quickly)(blair says a quick prayer)
B: dear God, be with my friend, jo. you know how much she means to me and i don't know whay i would do w/out her. thank you-amen!
(blair then falls asleep in the chair next to jo's bed)

J: do you guys mind if i go upsairs and lay down for a while? this pain medicine makes me kinda drowsy.
T: no, that's fine.
N: yeah we'll bring lunch up to you when it's done.
J: thanks1 hey blair, would you mind helping me up the stairs? my judgement is off a little.
B: no problem!
-bedroom-
(jo is sitting on her bed and blair is sitting across from her own her own)
B: you know, jo. when you told me about the tumor. i thought i was going to lose you.
J: yeah i thought i was going to die, too.
B: i'm glad you didn't. you are my best friend, ya know!
J: and your mine, too! (both hug)
J: well i'm gonna take my nap now.
B: ok
(phone rings and blair answers it)
B: yes...uh huh...ok...than youvery much...bye.
B: hey jo, listen. that was the doctor. they got the results back and your tumor was benign. you have nothing to worry about. except maybe putting up with me.
J: i guess i'll just have to deal with you then. thanks again, blair.
