List the shows that are equivalent to comfort food. For me it's The Golden Girls or Night Court for comedy, The Commish for drama, Lois And Clark for fantasy/romance and Garfield And Friends or any animated holiday special for cartoons. There's just something warm and fuzzy about all those shows. Maybe its cause they don't make them like that anymore. I never get tired of them. To me they're like a nice creamy bowl of macaroni and cheese or sweet mug of hot chocolate - but with less calories and guilt. What's your feel good show?

For me "Wings" is one for comedy. I proved this last week, though I've felt it for a while. I had a horrible day at work and I got on my couch, turned out the lights, laid back and turned on "Wings" and I tell you, my troubles went away (until the episode ended, lol). That show is so underrated.
As for dramas, I turn to the original "Twilight Zone". For Sci-Fi, it's gotta be either "Quantum Leap" or "Sliders." Though "Sliders" got darker as it went on, the early ones are great for comfort food. "Futurama" too. I get so involved in the episodes, that I forget all about the things that bug me in real life. When I was sick with a cold, I popped in my "Futurama" DVDs and just the rest of the day laughing (of course it hurt to laugh, but I did it anyways). |

Probably the Incredible Hulk or Lois and Clark. Cuz I can get sucked in and obsessed and it just makes you happy for awhile.
Or any show with a favorite star does the same thing, even if it's not a fav show. And 70s game shows. |

I'd say the TGIF shows. I always looked forward to Friday nights as a kid. Usually we'd order a pizza, watch the shows (and 20/20 afterwards), and my mom would let us "camp out" in the living room in sleeping bags. What fun!

I forgot to mention Three's Company - John Ritter and Don Knotts always make me laugh on that show!! God bless them. Catlover, your post reminded me of the day after Christmas, if it was a weekday my dad would be back at work, my mom would be watching her soaps on tv, and my sister and i would take a big blanket and spread it on the living room floor and just play with all our new toys, It was like our little island. Usually my pick of shows is determined by my emotions. If I have a bad day at work, sometimes I'll watch the last episode of the first season of 'Roseanne' titled, if I'm not mistaken, 'Let's Call It Quits'. I always fantasize about that ending, its so empowering, especially for somebody who's just struggling to survive and make it and deals with that kind of workplace indifference. Anyway, I love your picture of Elizabeth Montgomery. That was my favorite show when I was little, I used to watch the reruns on Nick@Nite. After that, it was my never ending quest to be blonde, I always thought she was so beautiful and classy! I only have the 1st season but plan on putting it on my x-mas list. I'm so glad people think this thread is interesting enough to respond, I've been a lurker for years and only post occasionaly so it makes me feel included to see you all replying. Sorry for the rambling, I'm bored and suffer insomnia!

Definately The Waltons. Whenever I'm feeling low, all I have to do is pop in one of my DVDs and I get lost in Waltons Mountain.

The Andy Griffith Show, it seems so homey and comfortable, there's no bad language to distract you and it makes me feel kind of happy to watch it.

The seasonal cartoons during Christmas. I have to watch all the Christmas episodes from old tv shows and Charlie Brown, The Grinch, Rudolph, etc. It doesn't feel like the holidays without them. I never get tired of watching them.

For me it's The Golden Girls, I Love Lucy, Friends, The Cosby Show, and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. They all help me to put away life's worries for the time that I'm watching them.

"The Brady Bunch". I love that show! It always makes me feel fuzzy and good inside!
"Roseanne". Because when I watch that show I realize I'm not the only one with problems in this world and that everyone goes through crap. |
