Unfortunate Events (A Facts of Life Thriller!)

((The house))
(Jo, Blair, Natalie, and Tootie are packing up their luggages to go home for the summer.)
T: Gosh..I can't believe how fast the school year went!
J: Tootie, just be glad it's over.
T: Why?
J: Because the second day you get back from summer vacation, you say the same old thing. "I wish it were summer vacation again!".
N: And then your stomping your feet in the hallway wishing you could go home.
J: (Laughs)
B: (Smiles)
(Mrs. Garett knocks on the door.)
MG: Girls, can I come in?
B: Yeah Mrs. Garett.
MG: (Comes in) Everyone all packed?
B: Mrs. Garett..I haven't even started packing my wardrobe!
MG: Then what have you been doing this past hour?!
B: Packing my makeup! Only fifteen more pieces to go.
MG: When I was a girl we were lucky if we had lipstick!
B: Well I will try to hurry up Mrs. Garett.
J: Oh you don't have to. We all are aware of how slow your brain cells are.
B: At least I have brain cells. Oh, wait, you have brain cells. The ones that function your Harley Davidson obsessions.
J: Watch it!
N: Now, don't fight on the last day of the school year like we did for the past two years!
J: Maybe we wouldn't at all if Blair wouldn't be here!
B: What do you want me to do kill myself?!
J: It would help.
MG: Jo!!
B: (Rolls eyes) Talk about senseless..she hopes someone dies in front of our house mother!
T: Well, I'm done packing. (Zips up her luggage.)
N: Me too. (Closes her luggage.)
MG: Well you two can go into the living room and wait for me by the door. I will be down there in one moment. Blair, Jo, hurry up. We are leaving soon.
(Tootie, Natalie, and Mrs. Garett leave.)
J: (Almost done packing.) Are you even close to finished packing?
B: Yes, yes, yes. A couple more minutes. 20 or so.
J: (Rolls eyes) Well I'm done. See ya. (Leaves.)
B: (Is alone in the room.)
(She sighs and opens up her closet door. She takes out a bunch of her clothes and one of her dresses drags against the wall causing a picture frame to fall off a wal onto her.)
B: (Screams)
MG: (Runs upstairs) Blair are you alright??!
(Tootie, Natalie, and Jo come up.)
T: What happened?!!
B: That frame fell on my head!
MG: Oh, Blair are you alright?!
B: Yeah..I'm fine.
N: Mrs. Garett it shattered!
MG: I know, I know..Blair are you sure you are going to be okay?
B: (Gets up) Yeah..I'm sure..
((The living room))
MG: Now, Blair, before we leave are you positive your going to be alright?!
B: Yes, I'm positive Mrs. Garett. It didn't hit me that hard.
J: It may of knocked some sense into her, but didn't hit her that hard.
MG: Oh no!!
T: What is it?
MG: I lost my keys!
N: That means we can't go to the airport!
B: I'm going to miss my flight!
MG: Now, girls, let's not panic!
J: Ain't a biggie for me. I drive on my bike home. If you want I'll go now.
B: Oh please do.
MG: No, Jo. We are all leaving together.
N: Maybe I should call my mom?
B: Cliff waiting for me!
MG: Everyone, sit down. Let's not panic.
J: Ya think I can just go?!
MG: Oh I don't know! I have a million things on my mind! If you want to go fine but be careful!
J: Uh hu. (Leaves)
T: Mrs. Garett we gotta find your keys somewhere! If not lets get a cab or hitch a ride!
B: That's the last thing I am about to do, Tootie.
T: Just a suggestion.
B: Mrs. Garett my plane to Cliff's place is leaving in ten minutes!!!
T: So?! Mine is leaving...now!!

B: Cliff is probably waiting for me wondering where I am!
T: I am suppose to fly to Los Angeles to see a play! I don't wanna miss my flight!
N: Tootie five seconds ago you said you already did miss it.
T: (Sighs and puts her head in her hands.) I can't belive this! My oppritunity is destroyed!
B: Tootie, calm down.
T: No!! I wasn't only suppose to see it! I was suppose to be in it!!
N: What?! Why didn't you tell us?!!
T: I wanted to surprise you guys!
MG: (Gets up) Tootie..I...I...I'm sorry...
T: (Starts to cry.) I worked so hard! And now my chance is ruined! (Puts head in her hands again.)
MG: (Sits next to her.) Tootie..is there anything..I can do??
T: No. (Runs upstairs)
MG: Tootie! Oh, what have I done!?
B: Mrs. Garett...don't worry. I'm sure she will get over it.
(The phone rings.)
N: (Answers it) Hello? Uh..yes..why? (Gulps and goes pale.) Yes. Ok..thank you...(Hangs up)
B: Who was it?
N: (Puts head down.)
MG: Natalie..who?
N: I don't think you'd wanna know...
B: (Laughs) How bad could it be?
N: (Long pause) Horrible.
B: (Looks at Mrs. Garett.)
N: Mrs. Garett..come with me. (Goes into the kitchen)
MG: (Follows)
B: What is going on?!
((The kitchen))
N: Mrs. Garett...Cliff is dead.
MG: W...what??
N: There was a shooting at the airport...he was in it...
B: (Runs in) Tell me what is wrong!!
N: Blair..Cliff's dead.
B: (Long pause as she goes pale.) No he isn't...it isn't true...
MG: Yes, Blair. It is...
B: No its not. You don't know what your talking about!! Cliffs waiting for me at the airport right now!!
N: Blair Cliff was shot in a shootout!!
(Silence)
B: (Tears roll down her cheeks as she storms out of the room.)
N: (Looks at Mrs. Garett) Mrs. Garett why is all this happening?
MG: Natalie..I...I..I don't know..
N: Do you want me to go talk to Tootie? You can go talk to Blair.
MG: That would be fine.
N: (Leaves)
((The girl's bedroom.))
N: Tootie?
T: What do you want?!
N: Tootie please calm down. It's not Mrs. Garett's fault!
T: I know...but I am just..so upset!
N: I know, I know. (Sits next to her.) But I think we better worry about more important things..like how Blair is.
T: What do you mean more important things?
N: Tootie...Cliff is dead...he was shot at the airport.
T: (Gulps)
((The living room))
MG: Blair?
B: What do you want?!
MG: I want to talk to you.
B: Mrs. Garett I'm in no mood for anyone today.
MG: Blair, things happen!
B: (Yells) Mrs. Garett get out!!!!!! What your saying is completely going through my mind!!! I am in no mood for anyone! Cliff is dead and he is never coming back!! (Starts sobbing) Mrs. Garett....(Runs to her and hugs her)
MG: It will be ok...
B: (Backs away and yells.) No it won't!!!!!! (Runs out of the room sobbing.)

Guys -- I am really sorry but I gotta go! I will try to write more because school was cancelled due to snow.. Well how do you like it so far?

B: (Sitting around the kitchen table crying.) Why Cliff..why did this have to happen to you?! Cliff I miss you! I loved you!!
MG: (Walks in) Blair?
B: Mrs. Garett...leave. I'm not in the mood to see anyone right now.
MG: Blair I am here to help you!
B: (Looks at Mrs. Garett.) And Cliff isn't.
((The girl's bedroom.))
T: Are you serious?!
N: Yes, Tootie. He was shot.
T: (Looks down then up) Wow..I really was...(long pause) selfish.
N: No you weren't. You just wanted that oppritunity so bad.
T: (Looks at Natalie) Nat..thanks.
N: For what?
T: Not only helping me with my problems..but being here for me.
N: (Smiles)
(They hug.)
((The kitchen))
B: Mrs. Garett...have you ever had this happen..to you?
MG: When my father did, yes. But I realized he was always going to be with me in my heart. Because he was part of my heart..and it would never change.
B: But..what if your hearts broken?
MG: When someone is that precious to you, Blair..it can't.
B: Mrs. Garett...
MG: Yes?
B: Even when something this drastic happens...you can fix it in a way.
MG: (Smiles)
B: But Cliff is gone for good...
MG: Not if you don't want him to be.
B: (Tears slowly began to run down her cheeks and they hug)
(At that same moment the phone rings.)
MG: (Answers it) Hello? Yes..this is she. (Long pause and she goes pale) Yes..o-o-ok..t-thank you..(Hangs up and looks at Blair) Jo...was in an accident...
B: (Gulps)
((The hospital))
N: I can't belive this!! is she going to be okay?!!
MG: This is all my fault! I wasn't paying attention to her when I told her to go on her bike!!
T: Mrs. Garett it wasn't your fault!! Don't think that!!
MG: Blair...(Blair is gone.) Blair?!
((The hallway))
B: (Slowly walks to the counter) Um..excuse me..
Nurse: Yes?
B: Would you please tell me what room Joanne Polniceck is in?
Nurse: One moment please.
B: ..Thank you.
Nurse: (Types Jo into her computer.) Room 345.
B: Thanks. (Walks away)
B: (Walking down the hall seraching for Jo's room.)
((The waiting room.))
MG: Oh dear..now where could she be?!?!
N: Mrs. Garett calm down! She probably just went to get a snack to get Cliff and Jo off her mind!
T: She will probably be back in a second. I think.
((Jo's room.))
B: (Slowly walks in and sees Jo. She cringes at seeing her.) J....o?
J: (Not awake.)
B: (Quietly sits down on her bed.) Jo..we have to talk. (Long pause) I know I could get into real trouble for this, but..I think its right. (Puts head down) Cliff is gone. He was..shot at the airport. Jo..I don't want you to go to. Yes, we all know that we didn't see eye to eye at times. But I want that to change. I was thinking..I can't afford to loose my best friend. (Starts crying and holds her hand) Don't leave me...please...(A doctor walks in.)
Dr: Hey! What are you doing here!?
B: Oh..visiting.
Dr: Can't you read the sign? Visiting hours are over! Now get out.
B: No.
Dr: I can call the security on this situation!
B: I frankly don't care. Jo was here for me hundreds of times..now I will be here for her.
Dr: I am calling the security if you don't get out!
B: (Gets up) I can't wait to meet them.
Dr: (Glares and yells) Security!!!

Guys, I am sooo sorry but I totally forgot about my social studies report and it is due tomorrow! (It was originally due Monday, but we had a snowday yesterday and today.) And if I don't finish it I am in big trouble! (Sounds like Tootie! Lol!) Well I hope you understand -- I will try to write more when I am done! (Plus I have no school this upcoming Friday or Monday, so I will probably get alot done then.) Sorry again! Buhbye!

Dr: Will you please escort this young girl out of here?! She broke into this room without permission to visit her friend!
Sg: (Grabs her)
B: Let go of my you creep!!
Sg: (Begins to pull her out)
B: I need to talk to Jo!!
((The waiting room))
MG: I wonder where Blair could be! Do you think I should ask the authorities?
N: No, Mrs. Garett. She is probably perfectly fine.
(Long pause)
T: Mrs. Garett...what if Jo dies?
(There is silence)
MG: That won't happen, Tootie.
T: How do you know? (Tears start forming in her eyes)
MG: Tootie, Jo will be perfectly fine...
N: You hope.
((Outside))
Sg: And stay out!! (Enters the hospital and shuts the door.)
B: (Sighs and glares at the building.) I have to get back in there! (Trying the think of a way to get into Jo's room. She then sits down against the building.) Oh its no use...(Puts head down and looks up at the sky. There is a long pause and then she does something she never thought she ever would.) ...God, it's me. Blair. I just wanted to..well...ask you for a favor. You think you could..well...give Jo a speedy recovery? She's my best friend..and I don't want to see her gone. That's all...I guess. (Tears slowly roll down her cheeks as she thinks of Cliff.)
((The waiting room.))
MG: That is it. I am asking where Blair is! You two stay right here..I will go find out.
N: Ok.
(Mrs. Garett goes down the hall.)
T: Nat, do you really think Jo will be alright?
N: (Sits down next to her and puts her arm around her.) Tootie..I don't know. Like you said, no one knows.
T: I'm just really scared..
N: So am I, Tootie. So am I...
(They hug)
((Jo's room))
J: (Slowly wakes up and immidietly cringes at the pain she feels in her right leg.)
(A nurse comes in)
Nu: Well, it looks like you've woken up. (Smiles)
J: (Silent) My...my...my leg...
Nu: It hurts? I know. You suffered serious damage to it.
J: A...a...am..I going..to be ok?
Nu: (Sighs) Just hang in there. (Smiles and leaves)
J: (Closes her eyes)
((Outside))
B: That's it. (Gets up) Jo is my friend. And I am going to go in there and be there for her. (Gulps and goes into the hospital, bumping right into Mrs. Garett.)
MG: Blair!! Why in heaven's name were you outside!!
B: I..um..will explain later. We gotta get up to the waiting room before anyone sees me. (Goes upstairs)
MG: What the..?
((The waiting room))
N: (Gets up) Blair!! Where were you?!
B: I will explain later at home! It's a long story.
(A doctor comes out)
Dr: Polnicek?
MG: Oh, that's us.
Dr: Well, she is awake.
MG: Oh thank heavens!
Dr: But...
T: But what?
Dr: She has a broken leg.
N: Is it serious?
Dr: It's just a broken leg. It will get healed. The accident was serious though. (Sees Blair) Wait a second, weren't you the one..
B: No.
Dr: (Looks puzzled) Well..she's ready for visiting. One of you can come in one by one. (Leaves)
MG: Blair, what happened? Why did he ask you if you were the one?
B: Well...I visited Jo when I wasn't suppose to.
MG: Blair!
B: And I was kicked out of the building.
MG: Blair!! You visited her without permission?
B: Yes, I did. I had to talk to her! That's why I am going in now. (Leaves)
N: I knew she cared about her deep inside.
(They smile)
((Jo's room.))
B: (Sitting on the bed.) Jo?
J: (Weakly) Hey Blair..
B: How are you feeling?
J: Oh..ok..I guess..
B: You have a broken leg..
J: Yeah, I know.
B: Jo..I'm glad your ok.
J: (Tries to smile but the cut on her cheek won't let her.)
B: (Smiles) When are you going to be out of the hospital?
J: I have no clue. Probably one or two weaks..depending on how I am doing.
B: (Smiles) Good.
(A couple weeks later)
((The house))
J: (laying on the bed)
MG: Jo, is there anything else I can get you?
J: No..thanks anyways.
N: I can't belive we are spending out summer here!
T: I would never have thought it would be here!
B: I never thought Cliff would die...
J: Huh??
B: Oh..you don't know yet. I guess I didn't tell you. Cliff was killed..he was shot...at the airport.
J: Oh my gosh..Blair...I'm sorry...
B: (Puts head down) Well..it's alright.
MG: You know, Since we are going to be spending the summer together, how do you think we WOULD have spent it?
B: Well I would of gone to visit Cliff. We would of had a fun time...(Smiles)
N: I would of visited my mom.
T: I would of gone to see my parents.
J: I'd see my folks.
MG: Well..I like it just where I am.
(They smile)
MG: Wait Blair, tell Jo why you were kicked out of the hospital.
(They all laugh)
