Default soap opera-ish

how many people agree with me; that this show has gotten too "soap opera-ish" and that the storylines were MUCH, MUCH better in the old days with George Clooney, etc.?

I turned it on recently, and I didn't even recognize anyone! And the story was so, like I said "soap opera-ish" and far-fetched!

i do as its not just also soap opera-ish, but boring and lifeless. never mind the fact that this show has been on life support for the last 3 years or so, as its life support should be switched off. i stopped watching the current series of ER two seasons ago and i have never looked back. when i get my ER fix i get it through watching the much early season episodes in 94-2000. nowadays, the storylines are dull and the current characters are no match for doug, mark, susan, carter, carol and weaver to name. this show has gone downhill and should come to an end for good

It's ALWAYS been "Soap Opera-ish." It is a DRAMATIC series.

The only thing I can say bad about ER is that Season 11 seemed really disjointed. Seasons 9 and 10 were really good (and it was still one of the top shows on television). Season 11 seemed like there were three different groups in the cast, instead of one cohesive one. There was the old cast - Carter, Weaver, Susan; the middle cast - Luka, Abby, Chen, Corday; and the new cast - Pratt, Neela, Sam, Ray, Morris. They didn't seem connected. It was as if some of them didn't even know each other. It also seemed like the writing wasn't focused enough; They were still trying to tell older stories, but at the same time move forward with the new characters, and it just didn't seem to be working. There didn't seem to be any relationships (romantic, friendship, or working) that really mattered.

BUT, it was Season 12 that brought it all back to the amazing ER that I knew. The older characters were gone - Carter, Susan, and Corday left (I do miss Susan, but I managed to move on). Abby and Luka rebuilt their relationship. Abby and Neela's friendship grew. Neela and Ray's friendship grew. Abby and Kerry, Pratt and Morris. Luka became the head of the ER and united the docs. It became a smaller, more focused cast, and it was wonderful. It's been wonderful ever since. I did have a problem with John Stamos as Tony Gates not fitting in last season, but he's grown on me. And even though the writers try to make him the outsider, he really has become part of the group.

I strongly disagree.

Since you stopped watching the show a few years back, you really cannot judge the last few seasons of the series.

I miss those characters you mentioned, but I do love the "new" characters. And you can't even call them "new" anymore - since most of the current characters have been on longer than a lot of the older characters.

I have a few friends that think it's better now than ever. I personally don't think it's better than EVER, but it is my favorite show on TV again.
