CBS DVD brings all 23 episodes of the sophomore season of the classic sitcom about neat freak Felix Unger and that slob Oscar Madison in The Second Season of The Odd Couple on DVD.

I can't wait to get this set! I've only seen one episode from the 2nd season before, the one that was on the bonus disc of the season 1 dvd. Sucks that there are no special features but at least we got a bunch on the first season dvd so I'm not complaining.

DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!! I KNEW they'd mess it up!!! I just hope that the rest of the series is good; when that comes out (which, hopefully, it will).

Disgraceful. Ladies and gentlemen, our worst fears have been acknowledged: PHE has abandoned all interest in releasing more quality installments of our beloved ODD COUPLE, the seem feelings they express in 95 percent or more of their products available on the market. No creativity, no thought, nothing provoking you to buy this set unless you are an avid fan or DVD consumer like we all are (most of us fall under both catergories). Horrible marketing technique. They wonder why alot of their products BOMB. Between unimaginative sets and a lack of promotion on TV, they're hitting a double whammy, but they have no interest in righting their wrongs. Just keep giving us substandard DVD releases. Good going Paramount. But we'll have the last laugh one of these days when you finally realize why you never made money off of the classics. And you'll have regrets, very, very, big regrets. Couldn't have given Paul Brownstein a thirty-second phone call and asked him, "Can you work something up for us, Paul?" Oh wait, Paul already PROVIDED them with the means for producing a quality set. Oh, yeah, and they opted NOT to use Paul's fantastic work (I say this because he is the best DVD producer in the business and I know that if HE produced it, it's a great set). Oh, well, at least PHE never uses a tag that says "Some episodes may have been edited from their original network versions. Some music has been changed for this home entertainment version.” Oh, wait a minute... Um, never mind.

OK, I'm through with my rant here. At least we get the episodes we all know and love with acceptable picture and audio quality.

Yep, but that's the only "bright side" to this haphazard set. But we all saw it coming after a recent string of horribly put together sets like the second seasons of HAPPY DAYS and LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY.

Has anyone else bought the season 2 DVD yet? I just finished watching it and I thought it was great! Hopefully season 3 will come out soon, that was my favorite season.

As far as music replacement goes, I believe "Speak for Yourself" is the only episode that has any music replacement. The song "Just One More Chance" was played twice during that episode, but it was replaced by generic music on the DVD.

I wonder why the retail price is so out of line. 29.99 at WalMart and Target. For missing music, possibly some editing, no bonus features, and lousy audio?

*sigh* I have gone off on this subject numerous times for other shows. So I'll summarize by saying that CBS DVD releasing the Paramount shows is NOT a good thing. That is, if CBS DVD indeed a completely different entity from PHV, which DID do good jobs for many shows before the name/ownership change (compare HD and L&S season 1 to season 2!)

Now for the icing, or should I say the arsenic, on the cake: I bet the Paramount split box logos are gone on the TOC too, right?

It's taking advantage of the fandom. They think you'll buy it just because you love TOC, no matter the cost, so they're going to get as many cents out of that as they possibly can. Just assuming, but it's all about the money now, isn't it?

I just finished running the whole set, and I'm thrilled to have quality prints of the first two seasons. I just pray that we get the rest of the series soon.

On the other hand, I must agree with one of the other posters that dealing with the sound quality was a real headache. And the omission of "Just One More Chance" was nothing short of sacrilege. Come on, it's Felix and Gloria's song for cryin' out loud!

That was my one, major problem with this set. (Although I believe, if you listen closely during that episode, you'll hear a few, short notes of the tune when Felix and Gloria first set eyes on each other.)

I thought the sound quality was good but my DVD player is connected to my stereo so I never really have any problems with the audio.

I bought the second season DVD set of The Odd Couple about two weeks ago. I loved the show in junior high and high school when it was in reruns here in Chicago. It was on weekday nights at midnight and I used to set the VCR to tape the show and would watch it when I got home from school. Sadly, the show hasn't been shown here on a regular basis in more than ten years.

Having watched most of the second season on DVD, I can say that I am really happy with it. Sure, the sound quality may not be great but I'm just gald to be able to watch the show again. When watching the episodes on DVD some of the episodes I would remember and some I would not. However, I really enjoyed all (not counting the last four which I haven't watched yet) of the epsiodes except "Does Your Mother Know You're Out Rigoletto" (too much opera music) and "Partner's Investment". I'll probably be buying season one on Friday.
